    HARD questions

We don't make salvation, God does. So, we don't make it 'dependent' on anything, if it is dependent on something then that would be God's doing, not ours. So, either way your point seems fallacious. You know "good" ones. And I have no problem with being anti-sin just as long as they are as...

    HARD questions

But in the sanctification process weren't sins you were once unaware of in your life brought to your attention? I know there were sinful attitudes and behaviors that I wouldn't have ever recognized in my life when I first came to faith, but later Christ revealed them to me and has helped me to...

    HARD questions

That passage your are referencing says that no unrighteous person will enter heaven and it even included adulterers in the list. Given that a man who even looks lustfully at a woman has committed adultery, I doubt any of us would qualify. Pauls point is not that homosexuals can't go to heaven...

    HARD questions

Not following? One of these sins will keep them from hell?

    Pelagianism

My point is the the GOSPEL is a work of the Holy Spirit, so to suggest there needs to be an additional working of the Holy Spirit for a man to believe the GOSPEL seems redundant at best.

    HARD questions

I do too, but I'm not sure how that answers the questions. :/

    HARD questions

And homosexuals are usually sexually active in church? I'm not understanding your distinctions? And all smokers, gluttons or materialistic people believers don't think there sins are acceptable? Again, I'm not seeing the distinction? I think this is the strongest of your points. How many...

    HARD questions

Question for Pastors: If an openly gluttonous couple seeks to join your church, how do you respond? If an openly smoking couple seeks to join your church, how do you respond? If an openly materialistic couple seeks to join your church, how do you respond? If an openly homosexual couple...

    Pelagianism

Allow me to ask you some questions to clarify what I believe to be the REAL issue at hand: 1. Was the Gospel inspired by the Holy Spirit? 2. Has the Gospel been perserved over the years by the Holy Spirit? 3. Is the Gospel today still carried by Holy Spirit indwelled people to the world...

    Generational Failure

Does anyone else find it ironic that the author of this OP is a hard determinist....thus for all practical purposes his indictment is of God, not a generation of people.

    The conflicted Calvinist

I have no idea what you mean? And yet you just stated, "It simply does not follow that the Creator, because he has ordained all that comes to pass, HAS TO BE THE ONE WHO IS ACTUALLY DOING EVERYTHING. Which is it? Is Satan doing it or is God, or do you think they are one in the same...

    The "I" problem

I don't see as much cause for rudeness/harshness in a forum where brethren are publicly discussing the grace and salvation of our Lord, as you apparently do. Your post, to me, sounds like an attempt to justify bad behavior. Just my opinion, and maybe that sounds rude. ;)

    The conflicted Calvinist

You think the point is the same either way? It is the same to say that God creates darkness and God creates moral evil? What of His Holiness? I think you'll find that even among the Reformed scholars you have little support for such claims regarding this passage. I'm not saying it doesn't...

    The Confused Arminian

Both camps affirm the effectiveness of the work of regeneration, we just disagree as to the order/cause of it, so there is absolutely no inconsistency or confusion on this point, but thank you for asking. BTW, most non-Calvinistic Baptists would not accept the label Arminian.

    The conflicted Calvinist

Amen. Hopefully you are fully aware of the differences between darkness/calamity and moral evil/sin. Most commentators draw that stark distinction in this passage, so I can only hope that you do as well.

    The conflicted Calvinist

The intent to kill is a thing, Luke. The intent to rape, the intent to deceive, the intent to be my own God, the intent to eat a child, the intent to shoot up a school, the intent to fly a plane into a building are all THINGS that have COME TO PASS, so I don't see how this point holds any...

    The conflicted Calvinist

So, you changed the analogy from God determining vessels to God determining characters in a book and you think you've avoided the charge being brought against your view??? Hate to keep pulling back up old conversations, but wasn't it you that argued that God does the deed but because he does it...

    The conflicted Calvinist

True. More than that, according to their belief even their correction has been determined by God. So, they have God determining beliefs that God is determining to correct. Thus, its not making THEM nonsensical, they are just the vessel, it makes God nonsensical.

    The conflicted Calvinist

For the record, I never said determinism (or the system of Calvinism) was 'inconsistent.' I said it was 'confounding' and 'circular' and you, Luke, affirmed the reasons for these conclusions in your initial response. I said, the Calvinists attempt to rebuke/correct us was inconsistent with...

    The conflicted Calvinist

The better question is how does what I said above NOT lead to 'God rebuking God.' Take the phrase that you just affirmed, "they are carrying out God's predetermined will for them by rebuking you for holding to God's predetermined will for you...and you are carrying out God's predetermined...
