What is the primary translation used at your church?

ESV chair Bibles. Pastor and elders preach out of ESV. We try to get the Scripture readers to read from the ESV. This is all done mostly for communication sake.

That should be a clue, Van. We all see it. Think about it.

Hard to take you seriously when you see Rev. 21-22 as heaven. It's new creation! Heaven on earth! Paradise! God's dwelling is now with humanity, not the other way around!!! How can you suppose to speak with authority when you neglect such a basic yet important truth???

From comparative religion standpoint of ancient myths, the most you might say of the Genesis account is that it is simply one of many other similar ways to describe creation by a deity. What makes Genesis unique is that it is ascribed to the God of Israel, YHWH. We of course take this account to...

That is not at all what I meant. But I doubt very much you understand Hebrew enough to talk intelligently on this. Words of course have literal meanings. But stories, books, myths, whatever... they have a different point or purpose than you or I perceive. And so I wonder, what is guiding that...

I'm sure young-earthers would like that. But you fail to recognize one huge thing: they are eastern thinking people... ancient near eastern. You are modern western post-enlightenment type of thinker. It is hard for us to see through their lenses. "literal" was a vague concept for them I...

    Congratulations Dr. Maurice Robinson!

Though its not related to SEBTS directly, SBTS did a documentary about Mohler and the conservative resurgence. Pretty good. Check it out if you haven't seen it. http://vimeo.com/76963904

Interesting, that's not how the fathers of PDism explain their hermeneutic. You left out literary and theological. Shocker... I know your view better than you do. But then I have published articles against PDism while I was a dispie (I of course have changed my views since then). But I have...

Having read all of Bock, Blaising, and Saucy on the issue; I'm comfortable in my assessment. I don't need your internet PD 101. And back at you, maje. You didn't man up either. Lick your wounds. You're wrong. I'm not backtracking at all. PD is close to Covenant Theology thus it is very...

    Congratulations Dr. Maurice Robinson!

It sounded like it was described as a digital version though. "This edition will be published in a Bible software program and will serve New Testament scholarship." Hopefully a paper version will come out too.

If what I said was an attack... then you telling me to man up is full of implications and insinuations. That, sir, is hypocrisy. Will you own that I wonder? "man up" There is no winning with you. You are so one-tracked in your thinking and close minded that it is pointless. I'll give it one...

I noticed you "forgot" to mention the chapter by John R. Himes entitled “A Translator Takes a Linguistic Look at Mark’s Gospel.” Congrats, dude!

Looking for theology survey book recommendations

Their treatment of issues is far too brief to be considered helpful. Scholars are top notch, but the work is too elementary even for a college text book. And it has next to no mention of the theology of each book. This is what I love most about Kohstenberger et. al.'s new NT intro.

    Progressive Dispensationalism

That wasn't an attack. That was an observation. Now if I were to call you a fool... that would be an attack. But good grief... settle down. My point, which is not at all mistaken, is that PDism is close if not in bed with covenant theology. So its close ties to Covenant Premillism is just...
