Why Does "Arminian Theology" get A bad name here On BB?

You need to look up the word "effectual" because it can't be both effectual and able to be resisted.

    Romans 11:24

How about we look at the verses in their entirety? Lets take the Mk 4 passage: "God has been given to you. But to those on the outside everything is said in parables 12 so that, " 'they may be ever seeing but never perceiving, and ever hearing but never understanding; otherwise they might...

Just how LIMITED is the ATONEMENT?

You may need to tell them that because they actually use the word "available." From the OP: "his work is equally available for all..." C. Hodge I'm trying to help you see that there are Calvinists (including Calvin Himself and most classic/historical Calvinists) who affirm that the legal...

    Romans 11:24

Proof? Because the scripture says they may have been saved had he not spoken to them in parables. Was Jesus just bluffing?

    Romans 11:24

That's a great question. If they are born Totally Depraved what would be the need to speak to them in parables? He does it so they won't be saved YET. If they come to Christ then they won't crucify Him. God, according to Paul, is temporarily hardening/blinding the Jews (except a chosen...

Why Does "Arminian Theology" get A bad name here On BB?

Huh? Are you saying Arminians affirm the Calvinistic doctrine of Irresistible/effectual grace?

    Romans 11:24

Hi Luke! Missed you buddy. :D So, Paul's 'peer' love is greater and more merciful than God's divine love? And since Paul is writing under inspiration, is his expression not reflective of God too? Hatred is an expression of choosing one OVER another in the 1st century vernacular. You...

Just how LIMITED is the ATONEMENT?

Yet, the reason men like Calvin and Hodge took the approach of explaining that the atonement sufficiently removed legal impediments is because of the clear contradiction that a free offer cannot be sincerely presented to those for whom its not made available. It would be like buying 9 super...

Just how LIMITED is the ATONEMENT?

Yet Hodge, Calvin and other Calvinistic scholars quoted teach that it is really sufficient to save everyone, not just the elect. Do you disagree? If so, why? We are not debating that point. We are discussing its sufficiency for all, not its efficacy for all. No it doesn't. As a matter of...

Just how LIMITED is the ATONEMENT?

So, since this view was their defense for the argument against Calvinism regarding the genuineness of the gospel's appeal and you reject it, what is your defense against it? How is something genuinely offered to those to whom it's not made available? Historically Calvinists have taken...

Just how LIMITED is the ATONEMENT?

If faith was all that was needed for one to be saved then Christ wouldn't have needed to die, but clearly the law had to be fulfilled and the wrath appeased. Now, either that legal impediment was fulfilled by Christ for all leaving only the need for faith IN Christ and his atoning work, or that...

Just how LIMITED is the ATONEMENT?

Yet, men like C. Hodge argue that your view is not the Reformed position when he writes, ""This doctrine, that the sufferings of Christ amounted to the aggregate sufferings of those who are to be saved, that he endured just so much for so many, is not found in any confession of the Protestant...

Just how LIMITED is the ATONEMENT?

Right. Yet, there are SOME who attempt to deny that sufficiency by suggesting that Christ did not satisfy the legal obstructions to salvation for all people on the cross. You don't appear to be one of those Calvinists, as evidenced by your next statement... This is what I've been arguing for...

Why Does "Arminian Theology" get A bad name here On BB?

I think the repulsion of labels connected to historical figures has more to do with Paul's teaching in 1 Corinthians 1:12 and the fact that no one systematic theology completely represents someone else's perspective.

Just how LIMITED is the ATONEMENT?

I understand that these quotes are from the context in which Calvinists are defending the universal aspect of the Gospel's call within the Calvinistic system, but notice they do so based upon the FACT that the legal requirements HAVE been satisfied for every person. I'm asking if you agree with...

Just how LIMITED is the ATONEMENT?

"As no man is excluded from calling upon God, the gate of salvation is set open to all men; neither is there any other thing which keepeth us back from entering in, save only our own unbelief." - John Calvin "What was demanded for the salvation of one was demanded for the salvation of all...

    Romans 11:24

Romans 9, 10 and 11 must all be read together and understood as a flowing consistent thought and teaching from the apostle. 1. He begins expressing his great love and desire of salvation for his fellow countrymen (Jews) and unless you believe Paul is more merciful than the God who is...

Compatibilism (continuation from 5 point Arminianism thread)

That is right! Even Calvinists acknowledge that God doesn't want his children to lie, but sometimes we do. Does that mean God fails? Obviously not. The desire of God for all to be saved is not without qualification. He will save all who freely choose to follow Him and he expresses His...

    Biblical Theology of work

True. “It is not what a man does that determines whether his work is sacred or secular; it is why he does it.” A. W. Tozer “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” (Colossians 3:17)

    God's View of Unbelievers

If you were aware of my views on this subject you would never conclude that my whole theology was based out of Romans 11:25. That's true. Because the gospel hasn't even been sent to the Gentiles yet. That doesn't happen until Paul is called and Peter has his "white sheet" dream. Matt 11 is...
