US church defiant despite condemnation of Koran burning

"How dare people say that Islam isn't a peace-loving religion - let's kill them!"

US church defiant despite condemnation of Koran burning

So Westboro Baptist have competition for the 'Most Hateful Nutjobs Masquerading As Christians' Prize 2010? Like flag-burning, they've got the legal right to do it, and I've got the legal right to call the 'Rev' Terry Jones a hate-filled, tiny-willied...

Is this blasphemous enough for you?

Depends what you mean by 'Mother'. Theotokos literally translates as, not 'Mother of God' but, 'God-Bearer'; in old English it would be 'God's Damm' but, for obvious reasons, the Church doesn't use that.

    What is this-aahu?

It's an affectation, most likely learned from watching another preacher do it. For example, my in-laws are Plymouth Brethren and in the 1950s they were led by a guy called James Taylor Jnr (who turned out to be rather dodgy). Now Big Jim had a problem with nasal drip and used to clear his throat...

    Priest and Wine

My grandmother always served wine with a meal and I partook from an early age (about 7 onwards, albeit in a very small glass initially); even today I consider it vulgar to not serve wine with a meal!

Well, blow me down with a feather, we agree on something!

    Rome and Finished Revelation

Ummm... because you haven't provided any other than to repeatedly re-state your opinion and spin on the evidence provided.

    Rome and Finished Revelation

That's merely a repeat of the assertion! You remind me of Robespierre on July 27th 1794, having been shouted down in the National Convention for his speech, went to the Hotel de Ville of Paris and re-read the same speech to his supporters...

Stephen Hawking changes his view on God

He's had Motor Neurone disease for nearly 50 years now. Average life expectancy for MN is two years. I have a theory that the hand of God has something to do with his extraordinary survival time with MN and that that hand may now be withdrawn since apparently the Nutty Professor considers he...

How Do You Know the Bible Is the Inspired and Infallible Word of God?

Fair point. But the "whole of the Bible from beginning to end is infallible and inerrant" is a faith position.

How Do You Know the Bible Is the Inspired and Infallible Word of God?

It's a faith position. Trotter, your position is interesting; mind if I unpack it? "God said it." Where, exactly? "I believe it." That's fine but does the matter of your belief in it make it any more true? "That settles it." See above - not sure it does!

When did it all go wrong?

Have you ever met a nun? Trust me, with a couple of notable exceptions, you wouldn't want to see them in mini-skirts; less is definitely more!

    Rome and Finished Revelation

You have asserted, not demonstrated; big difference. You haven't engaged with the Ex 3:14 - Jn 8:58 point, nor with the textual genre issue. [Reply to Dr Walter]

    Rome and Finished Revelation

You haven't demonstrated anything! You've merely sidestepped the issue.

    Rome and Finished Revelation

All very well and good but none of which addresses my point.

    Rome and Finished Revelation

No points at all still less anything else: WHERE do the Scriptures say that the ECFs are uninspired? Yes, but whose interpretation do we go with? Yours? Mine? Dr Walter's? Since I am neither Catholic nor liberal, that's a straw man.

    Rome and Finished Revelation

OK, I'll bite: the Messianic section of Isaiah only really gets going in chapter 40; just because St Peter uses a term there to subsequently describe Jesus in I Peter 2 doesn't mean that Isaiah 8:14 is 'Messianic' anymore than Yahweh's self-description as "I AM" in Ex 3:14 is 'Messianic' simply...

When did it all go wrong?

IIRC Johns never wrote about the Spanish. We were at war with the Italians so they were generally Bad Eggs although lumped in with the Germans as essentially European and therefore People Like Us, albeit on the wrong side. The Greeks were more suspicious as being quasi-oriental but it was really...

When did it all go wrong?

Golliwogs. They were also in the original version of Noddy.
