Decision day at Washington - reform or gridlock?

Interesting article here. What do you guys make of it?

Is Righteousness Imputed Apart From Works?

The word 'alone'. All of this presumes that it is correct to read James (and the Gospels for that matter too) through the lens of Romans rather than, for example, the other way round or even Romans through the lens of Galatians.

Is Righteousness Imputed Apart From Works?

It was a response to your challenge to HP's comment that not everything in Scripture should be regarded as truth.

Is Righteousness Imputed Apart From Works?

And you're not, by following Luther and adding that naughty little 'alein'...? I guess Jesus and James didn't get your memo...

Is Righteousness Imputed Apart From Works?

    Well, I did mention James....

    Something is Bothering me

So disobeying your parents isn't sin?

Is Righteousness Imputed Apart From Works?

Assumption is the mother of all lash-ups. The trouble is that the Word of God itself adds to your assumption. Try reading the Gospels as a starting point (and that's before we even get to James 2:14-26....).

Is Righteousness Imputed Apart From Works?

Really? OK, here's your starter for ten, then: read Matt 27:5 and Luke 10:37b. Are they truths we should follow?

    Something is Bothering me

Your definition may suit a dictionary but I'm not sure it fits Scripture. Let's assume you're correct though; are you saying that the moment a toddler voices his/her first act of defiance against his/her parents, s/he is damned unless s/he accepts the Gospel and repents?

Is Righteousness Imputed Apart From Works?

And where does it use the word 'alone'?

Is Righteousness Imputed Apart From Works?

...or you might try to engage with the Scripture s/he quoted.

    Something is Bothering me

    What about children who sin?

    Something is Bothering me

Or a Baptist asking legitimate questions.

    Something is Bothering me

And where's your evidence for that?

    Something is Bothering me

That presupposes that Jamnia-Yavneh was a council fixed in time; in reality it was more of a 'school' that reached such decisions more gradually. Nevertheless, its decision re the Jewish canon is noteworthy, but unfortunately it doesn't support your argument. You see, one needs to look at the...

    Another Catholic question (sorry guys!)

Oh, dear, so now the HS is limited as to which language He's allowed to speak?! This is a weird kind of KJVO-variant I haven't encountered before. I guess the HS didn't get your memo at Pentecost....

    Another Catholic question (sorry guys!)

So by your own 'rule', then, are you saying that Esther should not be in the OT?

    Latent Marxism II

Oh no, I've stumbled across yet another of those threads where apparently Obama is a closet member of the Socialist Workers Party (it's 'fraternal' British counterpart is here), and we all have to run round gerbilling for over ten pages about it like we have tin foil hats on until some kind Mod...

    Another Catholic question (sorry guys!)

No, but we know what books should go in the Bible. It is noteworthy that the first individual recorded to come up with an accurate list of NT books was Athanasius in 367. Nothing before that. The Vetus Latina/Vetus Itala referred to by you is a red herring: the terms refer not to a complete...

Some quotes for Catholics to ponder...

You don't have to use the word theotokos to state the doctrine: your argument is akin to that of the JWs who claim that, since the word 'trinity' is not found in the Bible, neither is the doctrine. Presumably, as a Trinitarian Christian, you think their reasoning is skewed, and I would trust you...
