    Question about a Catholic litany

Since the Apostle Paul dictated Romans 6, for example. Yes it is in complete harmony and I guess the Apostle James didn't get your memo (James 2:14-26)

    Question about a Catholic litany

Hmmm....methinks you are misunderstanding the difference between a mediator and an intercessor. A mediator stands between sinful humanity and the perfect God to bring those two parties together. That role is properly and solely attributed to Jesus Christ by virtue of Him being 100% God and 100%...

    Question about a Catholic litany

It effects our spiritual death and resurrection, as Rom 6 makes clear. I think, picking up on your post, that we need to distinguish between the sacrament and the matter used in the sacrament. Literal water does not save, does not spiritually wash us from sin etc. But baptism does, and baptism...

    Question about a Catholic litany

I don't understand your first question - please clarify - and your second question might as well be addressed to any Arminian, mightn't it?

    Question about a Catholic litany

True, but it does have to be subsequently affirmed - 'confirmed' - by the child in Catholic soteriology; Catholics don't believe in OSAS. Eric, if it's all symbolic, why do any of us - Baptist, Catholic, Anglican, etc - baptise in/with water?

    Question about a Catholic litany

Yes, but that faith has to be 'ratified' as it were by the child as s/he grows up. Part of the point of Catholic confirmation is to provide an opportunity for the young adult to express that faith and affirm for him/herself the faith promises made by the parents at baptism.

    Question about a Catholic litany

Not a Catholic but I think they would say that one is indeed born-again (although this term is only used in this chapter IIRC and also there is an argument for saying that it only pertains to Jews, not Gentiles) if one is a Christian but - and this is where they differ from evangelicals - (v.5)...

    A Hollywood Pro-Lifer Speaks

Good on him. And I think - just possibly - he might be a Christian... [ETA - having read more of his blog, I think he is indeed a Christian]

    Question about a Catholic litany

Actually, I know many Catholics who have read the Bible*, do subscribe to Catholic doctrine, have common sense and yet manage to hold the whole package together...go figure... *Depends whether you mean with or without the Apocrypha, I guess, but that's a whole different thread...:D

    Question about a Catholic litany

Again, the irony is that I've heard many a Catholic say the same about Baptists...I don't have a particular dog in this fight but just find it interesting... [ETA - "I'll stick with what I have", eh? Imagine if the Jewish hearers in Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost had all said that!]

    Question about a Catholic litany

Funny, that: you see the Catholics say that that's exactly what they are; indeed, they say they are more the New Testament Church than the rest of us...

    Question about a Catholic litany

    Well, that's 'catholic' for you!

    Question about a Catholic litany

Au contraire, the SSPX has been re-admitted to communion with Rome in the last few months by +++Benedict*, who seems to be trying to embrace this lot to his right as well as the TAC to his left. *Including a rather unpleasant British 'bishop' by the name of Rihard Williamson, who denies the...

    Question about a Catholic litany

B-G's an SSPXer, so I guess for her any development like this is one more step down the slippery slope that began with the Pontificate of John XXIII. I hope I haven't misrepresented you there, B-G - is that about accurate?

    Question about a Catholic litany

I think that they'll get a mixed response from Forward in Faith here. Whilst there will be some who will swim the Tiber with TAC (and +Ebbsfleet has indicated he'll be one of them), many priests will not be terribly excited by the prospect of their stipend being knocked down from £22500pa to...

Should obese people be required to pay higher insurance?

The definition shouldn't be too difficult, medically-speaking; BMI is a blunt instrument for such purposes (many sportsmen are technically obese under that measurement despite being super-fit) but you can go on % body fat, which is measurable. But the fluctuation thing is more problematic. The...

Should obese people be required to pay higher insurance?

Is the amount of sarcasm above your recommended daily allowance, though?

    Scoped from both ends

You have my sympathies, Rev, as someone who's had this procedure done more than once. You definitely need the drugs for the 'top' end and need be in dashing distance of the latrines for the prep for the other end. "If you ever feel like the bottom is falling out of your world, take Picolax and...
