    The Sinners Prayer

Others have already pointed out that that is a bad exegesis of Rev 3:20, where the Lord is speaking to a congregation of the saved (specifically that at Laodicea) rather than an individual unsaved sinner. The whole "Rev 3:20 = asking Jesus into your life = conversion" owes far more to Holman...

What you should wear when swimming ?????

This is a swimming pool, not the sea. You're free to wear what you like on the beach (although I echo Saturneptune's plea re skimpy swimwear there - either one gets young ladies with curves in all the right places wearing them which is a temptation to sin, or old ladies with curves in all the...

Sorry to hear that. Thanks for all your hard work and don't be too long about coming back.

    What Johnv and Darron said.

    "Devotion" to Mary...

Much as I dislike the OTT language, it is at core a request to intercede/ pray for the petitioner: "secure for us a favorable answer to the request...implore your maternal intercession. Obtain for us, O loving Mother, the granting of our request...you had influence with your divine son while...

    Palin Is Right

Re the OP: is this the same Sarah Palin who endorsed end of life counselling when Governor of Alaska? Surely not!

    An ignorant Limey asks...

Interesting editorial in The Times today arguing that both the US and UK systems are deficient (no kidding!) but suggesting the French model as a solution...

    An ignorant Limey asks...

Er...I don't think I quite said that. I said that Jesus would endorse a system which extended healthcare to the most vulnerable members of society. So there are two legs to agree or disagree with me on: 1. Whether Jesus would endorse the poor and vulnerable being in receipt of free healthcare...

"Dead" baby wakes up for his funeral

Thanks, MP, for that heartening story:thumbs:

    An ignorant Limey asks...

The most ludicrous claim put about by the opponents of the reform is the idea that we have 'death panels' who decide whether to euthanase elderly patients and that if Stephen Hawking lived in the UK, the NHS would have allowed him to die. Well, Prof Hawking has now issued a statement saying...

    The Sinners Prayer

That's my problem with it likewise.

    The Sinners Prayer

It tends to vary depending on whom you speak to, but a typical example would be: "Dear Lord Jesus, I acknowledge that I am a sinner, believe you died on the Cross to take the penalty for my sins, and invite you into my life as my personal Saviour". Now, I have no problem with the first part...

If one believes that baptisim is essential for salvation, is he damned

Pastor Larry, I've set it out for you as clearly as I can. If you can't or won't see your posting style as insulting, well I guess there's not much more I can do about that. Unless I get an apology from you, I will in future ignore posts by you since there is little point in trying to engage...

Ditto - I've been Anglican for over two years now and haven't been able to edit my profile to reflect that

If one believes that baptisim is essential for salvation, is he damned

Then please explain on which planet remarks such as "obtuse and prejudicial reading... little to no understanding ....bald misrepresentation.. a woefully inadequate and a historically and theologically uninformed position ....Please don't mislead people with such statements..... I think you...

If one believes that baptisim is essential for salvation, is he damned

Pastor Larry, I am sick and tired of your insults and your failure to engage with the points for debate on this thread. Now either answer the question or I - and doubtless others - will be forced to conclude that you have nothing better to do that be patronising to your fellow BB-members.

A Request of Site Authorities about Member Forthcomingness

I'm with you, Darron, as long as it is confined to a vague denominational description like 'Baptist', 'Catholic' or 'Anglican', rather than having to give clues about your home church; I would share the same concerns as DonnA and Rev Mitchell if the latter.

If one believes that baptisim is essential for salvation, is he damned

Pastor Larry, your definition of saving faith does involve action: trusting in Jesus Christ and living under His Lordship. That you think you can be saved without repentance. That is truly shocking.

If one believes that baptisim is essential for salvation, is he damned

Ah, now we're getting somewhere, away from the ad hominems. Good for you for doing that. So, let's define what we mean by 'saving faith' then...

If one believes that baptisim is essential for salvation, is he damned

Wow...just wow. I'm profoundly shocked by that statement.
