    The Sinners Prayer

Hmmm....that's not what I understand the Sinner's Prayer to be: amongst UK evangelicals at least it is the prayer by which you 'ask Jesus into your life'....whatever that means...

    The Sinners Prayer

The main problem I have with the 'Sinner's Prayer' is that I don't find it in Scripture; it certainly isn't the prayer that Jesus taught us....

If one believes that baptisim is essential for salvation, is he damned

It's not faith alone. It's faith+sound doctrine. It's a pretty simple, logical statement. I'm not the one twisting the plain meaning of things here...

If one believes that baptisim is essential for salvation, is he damned

Oh I agree completely. But that isn't 'faith alone'. Why won't you see that rather than making false accusations of 'perversion'?

    An ignorant Limey asks...

Indeed. And that's before you start trawling through the OT prophets (particularly the minor ones), the Law and the OT Wisdom literature. For example, Amos is particularly ‘anti-rich’, attacking their lifestyles and their abuse of the poor, together with injustice and judicial bribery (Amos...

If one believes that baptisim is essential for salvation, is he damned

And please don't accuse me of doing something which I haven't done. Let me phrase it the question a different way then as there is evidently some difficulty in comprehension here: in addition to having faith, how much 'correct doctrine' does one need in order to be saved?

If one believes that baptisim is essential for salvation, is he damned

So you believe that not just faith, but also correct doctrine, is necessary for salvation. You therefore do not believe in faith alone being necessary for salvation. Does that mean that you likewise are damned?

    An ignorant Limey asks...

Two points in return: 1. As a Christian (and a minister no less!) , do you not think that, regardless of what the Constitution may or may not say (and the Constitution may of course be amended), saving and protecting lives through enhanced medical care coverage is at least as great a moral...

    An ignorant Limey asks...

But if you're happy for it to erode your freedoms for the purpose of protecting lives through defence, what's the moral problem with allowing it to do so to protect more lives through extending healthcare coverage? Tim and HankD - don't you get a chance to vote at least some of them out next...

    An ignorant Limey asks...

I'm not saying that anyone here supports the PATRIOT Act (some may, some may not), just pointing out that this is not the first time that the Federal government has broadened its reach, as it were, nor is that broadening the preserve of just one political party.

    An ignorant Limey asks...

What about the PATRIOT Act, then?

    An ignorant Limey asks...

I don't see how having a government-led healthcare programme is 'socialism'; we have the NHS and we're scarcely the old Soviet Union! And there didn't seem to be any absence of anti-government protesters at these meetings (who do you think was doing the heckling and hollering?) so presumably...

    An ignorant Limey asks...

OK, but I don't call heckling a 'redress of grievances' or ' petitioning the government'; it seems if anything to lower the level of goodwill towards the 'antis'. And, yes, I do understand that your political system has a quite different origin from ours (crudely speaking, it's 'individuals...

    An ignorant Limey asks...

Please elaborate as to why and how this is bad theology. Really? I wasn't aware it was US tax dollars propping up the NHS. Please give evidence for this. Which ones? As indicated above, I don't see any evidence of the US pumping money into the NHS. If you're wrong about that 'fact', how...

    An ignorant Limey asks...

So far, so good, on your list. But why the vitriol at these public meetings? Why not put these counter-proposals to your Representatives in a calm and collected manner? ISTM that it's counter-productive to heckle rather than wait your turn to prove your point. (I don't mean 'you' personally of...

    Are you a donor?

I have no problem with donating after death; God created my organs in the first place and He'll therefore have no difficulty in creating fresh ones at the Resurrection (don't we all get new bodies anyway?), otherwise that's bad news for those whose bodies have rotted away completely over the...

    An ignorant Limey asks...

...why all the violent fuss about healthcare reform in the US? I suspect this is one of those major major cross-cultural differences, even (especially?) among Christians. I can only speak from my perspective as a UK Christian, but I can't see anything wrong with trying to extend healthcare...

    Different Protestant Denominations

Oh, Anglicans (Episcopalians if you prefer) are even worse than Baptists when it comes to 'answers' on these subjects (eg: "if you ask two Baptists a question you'll get three different answers"; Anglicans do this too, but with extra helpings of 'fudge'). But let's take your questions...
