How many here hold to The doctrine of the perseverance of the saints

Just out of curiosity, I did a search and here are the verses in the NASB where the word “perseverance” appears: [Luk 8:15 NASB20] 15 "But the [seed] in the good soil, these are the ones who have heard the word with a good and virtuous heart, and hold it firmly, and produce fruit with...

How many here hold to The doctrine of the perseverance of the saints

I did not have anything in mind … I was merely quoting the title of the thread to identify what I was responding to (the question asked in the title rather than the latest post in the thread). As far as your quote on prayer and my quote on God beginning and finishing the work, I believe that...

How many here hold to The doctrine of the perseverance of the saints

John says: “They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, so that it would be evident that they all are not of us.” - 1 John 2:19 [NASB] Jesus said: “THIS PEOPLE HONORS ME WITH THEIR LIPS, BUT THEIR...

How many here hold to The doctrine of the perseverance of the saints

How many here hold to The doctrine of the perseverance of the saints? “I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.” - Philippians 1:6 (and me, but Paul said it first). ;)

Which Jesus? Why the Bible version issue matters.

My leaky memory … but there IS something going on that limits travel days and creates back to back feasts. (So maybe not booths). However, I noticed that you made the effort to say I was wrong, but not the effort to provide the correct festival name (which is enlightening in itself).

Which Jesus? Why the Bible version issue matters.

There is, from what I have read, some obvious “cultural baggage” that is lost in the translation that would have been obvious to anyone Jewish living at the time. There was a “Feast of Booths” that was going to occur about that time (just before Passover) that created timing issues for...

Which Jesus? Why the Bible version issue matters.

“pervert” (noun): “a person whose sexual behavior is regarded as abnormal and unacceptable.” … “these deceiving perverts”? Really dude? :Thumbsdown Get some help.

Which Jesus? Why the Bible version issue matters.

As do most manuscripts. The “Alpha and Omega” words appear several times in Revelation, just not (likely) at Rev 1:11 (no matter what the TR says). Changing a translation to get it right is not a bad thing.

Is selling study bibles, theology books, or commentaries "selling Jesus?" Is it wrong to "buy Jesus?"

It is almost like there is something FUNDAMENTALLY broken in people, a sort of "depravity" that "totally" impacts how they think and act ... who would have guessed? ;)

    Jesus died on Wednesday

Only that 3 full days (sunlight) and 3 full nights (darkness) will never work with a resurrection near sunrise. Jesus died in the afternoon (late daylight) and was quickly buried before sunset (irrespective of the exact day) The women discovered the tomb empty at sunrise (Sunday). So 3 full...

    Jesus died on Wednesday

Does Esther 4&5 count? Esther 4:15-17 [NASB] 15 Then Esther told them to reply to Mordecai, 16 "Go, gather all the Jews who are found in Susa, and fast for me; do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my attendants also will fast in the same way. And then I will go in to the...

    Jesus died on Wednesday

The way Esther [Esther 5:1] and Luke [Luke 24:21, 46] looked at it when it was recorded in the Bible. ;)

    Jesus died on Wednesday

If someone created a thread with the premise that Jesus never claimed to be God, would it be wrong to post Scripture that challenged and corrected that error?

    Jesus died on Wednesday

Luke 24:1, 19-24 [NASB] 1 But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared. ... 19 And He said to them, "What sort of things?" And they said to Him, "Those about Jesus the Nazarene, who proved to be a prophet mighty in deed and...

Bring back the Articles of Confederation of 1781.

Read about the Continental Army in the Revolutionary War under the Articles of Confederation that IN WARTIME nearly disbanded 3 times because States failed to provide the money, food and supplies that they had promised … or the need for Congress (under the Articles of Confederation) to flee...

Bring back the Articles of Confederation of 1781.

Well, the point of a CONFEDERATION is that the STATES have all the power individually. The Federal Government had to request money from every state to support a navy and had to request State Militias to field an army. That is why the Confederation was replaced by a Federation and the Articles...

Bring back the Articles of Confederation of 1781.

You can eliminate the budget problem right now … just end all Social Spending (Social Security, Unemployment, Heath Care, Education) and all Defense Spending (Army, Navy, Air Force) just like the Articles of Confederation would not have supported and there is no more budget problem. The debt...

Acts 5:30 and 10:39 - "whom ye slew AND hanged on a tree"

You have missed the point of the objection. It is not that “and” is an evil conjunction, while “by” is a good conjunction. The issue is that AND places both verbs (“slew” and “hanged”) as actions of the same subject (“ye”). 1. Did the Jews slay Jesus? (Yes.) 2. Did the JEWS hang Jesus from a...

John 7:8-10 Did Jesus lie or tell the truth?

Jesus told the truth. The real question is “Which translation is telling the truth about what Jesus said?” :Cool

Which Jesus? Why the Bible version issue matters.

from the [source] I linked to “I wonder if it has something to do with the use of the present indicative tense in "I am not going up"? (I'm getting that from BibleHub, which appears to use the Nestle 1904 text). If I understand this tense correctly, it means that at that moment, he (Jesus) was...
