1 John 5:10-11, ". . . He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. . . ."

The "us" are those whom God gave the record He gives eternal life by the giving of His Son. Those who do not believe God did this, make God out to be a liar.

When looked at objectively it is clear John’s statements are strongly implying God’s testimony is a witness of divine truth meant for every person. But not all will accept this truth.
1) The one who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself
2) the one who does not believe God has made Him a liar {WHY?}
3) because he has not believed in the testimony that God has given concerning His Son. (vs 10)

What is the testimony that God has given to all men— even those who refuses to believe? John says, “... God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son” (vs.11). This point is crucial to see and understand if we are to exegete this text correctly. Gods’ invitation is open to everyone but He will not force it on anyone.

Those who are calling God a liar are those who deny God will give them eternal life by them believing in His Son whom He sent to pay for their sins.
". . . he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. . . ."

I always count on Gill to be God-Honoring.
I added the Caps to Divine things.
I added Eternal Life, in blue, as the antecedent of, "it", that Gill used.

from:
1 John 5:11 - Meaning and Commentary on Bible Verse

'This is a Pure Free Grace Gift of God the Father,
proceeding from His Sovereigns Good Will and Pleasure,
and which He Gives to all His chosen ones, for they are Ordained unto Eternal Life;

'to as many as He has Given to His Son;

'to all that are Redeemed by His Blood,
and are Brought to believe in Him: to these He Gave Eternal Life in His Son before the World began;

'and to the same in time He Gives the Right unto Eternal Life, the meetness for Eternal Life,
and the Pledge and Earnest of Eternal Life;

and will hereafter give them the thing itself, i.e., Eternal Life
the whole of Eternal Life, to be Possessed and Enjoyed by them in person, to all Eternity."

*1 John 5:1-12*

Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves whoever has been born of him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome. For everyone who has been born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God? This is he who came by water and blood—Jesus Christ; not by the water only but by the water and the blood. And the Spirit is the one who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. For there are three that testify: the Spirit and the water and the blood; and these three agree. If we receive the testimony of men, the testimony of God is greater, for this is the testimony of God that he has borne concerning his Son. Whoever believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. Whoever does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has borne concerning his Son. And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.

Unless we are born again by God, we will not believe.
God must do that work. No effort of the human will can bring about the new birth. You cannot believe until you have been born again.

On going belief that Jesus is the Christ, meaning He paid for the believers sin and is risen from the dead, continues, the believer having been born from God.

Jesus being the Christ affirms the general redemption and resurrection per 1 John 5:10-13.

To bad that Gill is such a bad exegete. He reads things into the text that are not there and then you calvinists follow along like little puppies. Read the text for yourselves, stop depending on others to tell you what to think.

*1 John 5:18-20*

We know that everyone who has been born of God does not keep on sinning, but he who was born of God protects him, and the evil one does not touch him. We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one. And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.

All of 1 John 5 speaks to God's Supremacy, just as saints of old understood it and saints today understand it.

Yet free willers keep trying to tear God down and put themselves at the top. It's a tactic of the devil, but still it keeps being attempted.

What is the record gave of His Son ? Well Jn 10:15 the record that He gave His Life for the Sheep ! And its the Sheep who Christ gives eternal life Jn 10::27-28

27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

But did He pay for the unbelievers sin ? Those who never believe and die in their sins ?

I haven't avoided it at all. I have shown you the entire chapter and highlighted that a person must be born again before they can believe. So I ask you this. Can you "born" yourself to believe or must God re-born you before you can believe?
John tells you in the entire chapter as well as in John 3. Both corroborate perfectly with Ephesians 2.

Therefore, if you aren't born again, you cannot believe, and you call God a liar.

"Whoever believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. Whoever does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has borne concerning his Son. And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son."

Note that God gives eternal life. You don't choose it.

It's time for you to admit you never chose God, 37.

If one has to be born again in order to believe, how does that cause one to make God a liar? ". . . he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. . . ."

What is the "testimony that God has borne concerning His Son"?
Answer: "God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son."

37, you and I are called to persevere in the faith. If we reject God, we call Him a liar.
John is writing to the church. Just like today, there were people who were self-labeling as Christian and then falling away and going back to their old ways. They are like "dogs who return to their vomit."
Those whom God has caused to be born again will persevere to the end and not fall back. Therefore we will know them by their love for one another.
How is it that you are missing what John is telling believers?
