I became elect when I got born again. We are elect in Christ. Salvation is of the Lord. I believe the Holy Ghost enlightens us through the preached gospel. Once we're enlightened to the truth of being sinners, the spirit draws us. We can repent and believe through faith or continue lost. It's not his will that any should perish. Hell wasn't built for any man, but it enlarges its borders daily. I've never read were Heaven had to get bigger. Christ tasted death for every man that whosoever will, let him come and take of the water of life freely. But, I believe the Holy Ghost draws us to him. Christ said no man can come to me except the Father who sent him draw him. He draws but the spirit. I feel that the Lord must be dealing us in order to get saved young or old.

I woud say that anyone who says,"What should I do to be saved from Hell?" or "How can I be sure I'm going to Heaven?" is not a genuine seeker. I was in contact with someone who said we become saved because we don't want to go to hell. I also had a Calvinist pastor who said we become saved because we want to go to heaven. Both are absolutely wrong. We turn to Christ for salvation because we have come to realise that we are filthy sinners who have sinned against a holy God who cannot look on sin and who sent his holy son to date and take our place on the cross. I would tell them that they are a sinner and if they repent, Christ receiveth sinful men..

Let me give you an illustration.

A mother had two sons, and she found them doing something absolutely wrong. The first said "Sorry Mum", hoping he would escape punishment. The other burst into tears and said "Sorry I am very sorry Mum, I won't do that again." Which one would be justified in her sight?

Salvation means saved. Saved from what?

The truth of Calvinism, to use your term, is the gospel.

I agree (and think this should be emphasized). The truth of Calvinism, Reformation Arminianism, Wesleyan Arminianism, Amyraldianism, Pentecostalism, Open Theism, ect. is the gospel of Jesus Christ. The part that us our understanding (or misunderstanding) does not keep the gospel from shinning through (the gospel, not our understanding of issues of how God effected salvation) is the power unto salvation.

even the thief on the cross got the promise of eternal life. we do for people as our calling indicates.
The thief wasted his life, but not his eternity, because he was sincere.
Why do consider it a false hope? I thought election was a mystery.

To say a prayer and be "christened" wouldn't do anyone any good other than maybe make them feel good. When are not saved by saying a prayer. We are not saved by baptism (the thief on the cross was never baptized). We are saved by placing our faith and trust in the finished work of Christ on Calvary. That's what I would tell any sincere seeker. I don't care if it's on their front porch or on their death bed.

Election is no mystery. I know exactly who will and will not be saved. The Bible makes that perfectly clear.

13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. (KJV)

It is clear that Jesus gives every man a certain measure of light. Those that respond to the light are given more light (Mark 4:24). Those who receive Him are saved; those who receive Him not are lost. It is no mystery at all.

Verse 13 tells us exactly how this takes place by telling us first how it does not take place.
Which were born, not of blood - my salvation was not inherited through my blood line
nor of the will of the flesh - no matter how badly I want to reform I can't change enough to be saved
nor of the will of man - My parents, pastor, wife, children, nor anyone else can will me to be saved
but of God - God alone sets the parameters of salvation; that is, receiving His Son as my Saviour

Gladly. Repent of your sins (Acts 3:19) and receive God's free gift of salvation (Rom. 6:23) and be saved. That's the sum total of man's role in salvation.

It's not rocket science, my friend. It is so easy that a little child can understand it.

They are not children their , .. Calvinist, When Baptist use phrases we know what is involved. Calvinist change to fit their doctrine.
"receive God's gift of Salvation" to A Calvinist says "election" but to you and I it is a personal decision to believe what God has said that Christ is sufficient and able to forgive sins has paid my penalty of sin. He did all this so I can be with Him, I do not have to go to Hell but can go to Heaven. I choose to accept the pardon God did for me
