And I thought I was bad!
Reminds me when I went to a pentecostal church where people came forward to have hands laid on them so that they could receive some supernatural blessing like being "slain in the spirit". I noticed this one young man who only went up and laid hands on the women coming forward. I figured I knew what kind of spirit was leading this guy.

Oh, we've had a few of those. Fortunately we have wonderful protective men in our church who nipped this pretty quickly. Not only that but when the man left because his "fix" wasn't being taken care of anymore, we notified the church that he went to about his problem so that they could keep an eye out for it. We would have appreciated a call from his old church to let us know before some women were just short of molested so we made sure we let the other church know.

Do you seriously know someone who wears Speedos ....besides Borat? If thats your list. I shave my head, is that a turn on? :love2:

You have the Jersey Shore, we have the South Shore. Trust me, I've seen more Speedos than I'd care to count. I've also seen NO Speedo. SHUDDER We were on our sailboat in Fisher's Island off the east end of Long Island and there was an older couple on the boat next to us. Seems they forgot their bathing suits. It was horrible because we had to keep an eye out and make sure our children didn't see. I wish *I* had been notified as well. A Speedo would have been an improvement.

I want ot remind everyone that women get turned on differently than men.

When I dress up in a suit and tie, my wife says I am so handsome and appealing. To many women, handsome means appealing (sexual appealing). Also, some women get turned on by military uniforms.

So no more suits and ties and no more military uniforms; because they can cause some women to get turned on (lust) by such types of clothes. Back to only sandals and sport shirts. I don't want to be guilty of provoking any lust in women; then I would be as bad as women who want to be attractive.

Forget the UPS uniform too. Most women love their UPS drivers. They are cute, dress in a uniform and bring them gifts. :D

There are many forms of lust.

Let us take a look at the magnitude of what we are talking about.

Please put your theology books down for a few minutes. And pick up a pencil or calculator.

U.S. consumers purchased 19.5 billion garments of apparel in 2008. That is not dollars, but number of garments. Do whatever math you care to do.

19.5 billion garments @ $10 = $195 billion
19.5 billion garments @ $20 = $390 billion

Do Americans need to spend $195 billion (or more) each year on apparel?

This is a problem. Sunday best is one thing. But $195 billion (or more) each and every year?

God (and the millions of people in poverty) need all of the Amos prophets preaching out their hearts and souls on this.

What's in your closet?

How can anyone listen to that 30 minute rant who has any spiritual discernment whatsoever and believe this guy is a legitimate Christian leader? There is no sign of leadership, humility, grace, or any other Christ like attribute that comes to mind. What are you all arguing about? I would not let that guy within walking distance of my church or family.

This guy is or was one of the top men in the Reformed Baptist movement believe it or not.....but maybe, just maybe we gets a little old, a little senile....maybe....dont really know. not affiliated with that denomination. Me be's an independent & me likes it that way. Easier to fire them that way.

I don't know how they can; well, maybe I could speculate how and why, but I won't.

Nor would I.

I find it hard to be very sympathetic toward those who can’t even control their thoughts over moderately dressed women in a church environment. Consider my challenge:

Since the beginning of the semester I’ve been practicing all kinds of hands on physical therapy techniques on women primarily dressed in only spandex shorts and sports bras, if that. And it seems to me in considering the maturity levels and attitudes maintained within our “group atmosphere” (secular/mixed religion, yet respectful of one another) that it would be more difficult for many of the “churched Christians” here to show the same level of maturity and respect under much less daring situations. Anyone else see a problem with that comparison between the two cultures?

Some are speaking on embarrassment. Am I embarrassed at times? Yes! But that is a far cry from being lustful.

Now, I can’t say what is on other people’s minds but as for mine it is to maintain professionalism, protect the client’s modesty, and focus on the intended goals. Any intrapersonal insecurities are blocked out because it is “MY” responsibility to do so. I don’t even have a choice in this matter if I am to remain in my profession. To run away while casting shame on others as if it I were their fault should I fail to control my thoughts and emotions is not even in my blood; as a Christian I feel I that I “must” personally accept any responsibility for wrongful thoughts regardless of the environment.

He'd no longer be after something like this.

Now you see what I had to pick from when I was looking for Churches in NJ? Nobody believed me....LOL. I still think they are weird. Weirdos in my church for God's sakes.I just sit in the back, & tell myself that Im doing the right thing by being there. Honestly, I am creeped out.

you got no (0) sense of humor.
I believe if you asked the church I serve in, most would say I have a sense of humor on the edge. That has nothing to do with this situation. There is nothing humorous about someone in a leadership position of a local congregation charged with sheparding the people of that church who is on a power trip.

Yep - I know sometimes it's hard to find a good church but they are out there. They might be really tiny though. But something like this would definitely send me somewhere else because if he's blaming women for men lusting and basically accusing the wonderful women in his church of doing this, then he's got a screw loose and I'd have to find another church. I know it's not easy - we live in the armpit of the Christian world in the US - and if there was not even one church I could find, I'd start a new one. :)

Saturneptune, you are spot on in your assessment of the man.
Many of his fellow Reformed Baptists would agree with you.
Many others, like some posters here have, fawn over him:tear:

I will tell you what you do then...that particular denom is in Carlile Pa....place a call to them.

To be quiet honest---women and men get "turned on" in ways that are 180degrees different than each other

Men are turned on primarily(and I repeat) primarily by what they see

Women are turned on primarily(and I repeat) primarily by what they hear

So a woman wears some item of clothes that a man catches with his eyes

And a man---well---its what he says to a woman that catches her attention

Both must put on the ritz in order to attract---she by what she wears--he by what he says

Now---I say--primarily

Sometimes you see women arroused by what a man wears or how he looks---but the majority of the time it is from what she hears

Sometimes a man is arroused by what he hears---but the majority of the time it is from what he sees

(HEY---I listened to a lot of Dr. Dobson before his retirement from radio!!)

Thats why it was the BB women in the 16 or so pages of this thread who were "turned off" by what Martin had to say---because he didn't say anything that would arouse them---and they let everybody KNOW they were not amused-------------but how many of us men spoke up and said anything about what Martin used to describe the settings??

:type::type:

See what I'm saying??

Now----------if it were ME preaching the sermon----here's what I would have said instead of what Martin said

It would be useless to elaborate or describe to the extent he did---mercy---because you and I both know he was preaching to the choir---------but hey----the choir needs preaching to every now and then!!!!!!!

I would say something like---------Ladies---men are aroused by what you wear---so be careful about what you wear Ladies-----YOU are aroused by what you hear-------so be careful of the way you converse with another man who is not your husband--------MEN---------have eyes for your wife only!!!! Be careful men of what you SAY to another woman who is not your wife!!! Sometimes a "My, you look lovely today!" could be just the thing NOT to say!!! Especially if her husband never complements her along those lines!!!

Something along those lines-----not exactly all I would say but something to that order

I once heard the late Dr. Adrian Rogers say------Do you want to affair proof your marriage??? Do you???? Well---if you do---stay fervantly in love with the Lord Jesus Christ!!!

Interesting to note---------I've had people get up and leave during a message I've been preaching along those lines---and they left for far less than what Martin said----I feel bad about it---but shake it off as---well---those leaving must have had to go to the bathroom or something----or had some kind of roast in the oven and it was burning---or something------------of course, people leave and never come back--regardless of what I'm preaching sometimes!!
