So then what does it profit me to go to church if they are so difficient?
If you believe you are not competent to read the scriptures for yourself and make a difference in the congregation, then you need to find a church that is actually teaching and applying the teachings of Jesus.

I have always staying in the church and tried to make a difference. Most of the time it has a positive result. I have also been asked to leave.

The issue is not about finding fault or finding the perfect church, but instead taking responsibility for your own spiritual condition, learning and practicing the teachings of Jesus and then making a difference where God has planted you.

Really, Lets go there. What clothes (mens) are objectionable? Prey, give me a list.

Tight pants that show off... stuff. I've seen them from jeans to dress pants. They need to be baggy enough that we can't see the shape of the form.

Jackets - they show off broad shoulders and strength is a turn-on to women. Instead men should really wear clothes that don't suggest that strength. It really causes many women to stumble.

Oh - and of course Speedos. Nuff said.

Everyone is responsible for themselves, however, those that hold the position of pastors and teachers have a greater responsibility.

Again your assigning blame without completely understanding what was going on in that church....granted it isnt my idea of a splendid sermon but you villify the guy without full hand knowledge of perhaps what happened to make him feel it was necessary to even go there so Im not in the lynching crew, thank you very much.

You can kneel but don't bend over. It emphasizes rears.

And I thought I was bad!
Reminds me when I went to a pentecostal church where people came forward to have hands laid on them so that they could receive some supernatural blessing like being "slain in the spirit". I noticed this one young man who only went up and laid hands on the women coming forward. I figured I knew what kind of spirit was leading this guy.

Do you seriously know someone who wears Speedos ....besides Borat? If thats your list. I shave my head, is that a turn on? :love2:

I want ot remind everyone that women get turned on differently than men.

When I dress up in a suit and tie, my wife says I am so handsome and appealing. To many women, handsome means appealing (sexual appealing). Also, some women get turned on by military uniforms.

So no more suits and ties and no more military uniforms; because they can cause some women to get turned on (lust) by such types of clothes. Back to only sandals and sport shirts. I don't want to be guilty of provoking any lust in women; then I would be as bad as women who want to be attractive.

Totally disagree. The immodest clothing has no place in a mixed audience. So if it is worn by a member then they need to hear about it in the same forum. By the way he did not point anyone person out. The only ones embarrassed would be those clothed improperly.
I have been in churches where if a member sinned and it brought losing ones fellowship they had to come before the whole congregation and admit their sin and ask forgiveness if they wanted the fellowship back. I have never seen the same person have to do it more then once.

The problem I have is that not only were the ones "offending" embarrassed, but those who were not "offending" suffered embarrassment as well. I would have been embarrassed and I wear a suit and tie. So it is foolish to think none are embarrassed except those the pastor is picking out. The graphic nature of his language can also cause the stumbling he is standing there preaching against. So he is sinning against his brother as well.

The proper way to handle this problem is to have the elder women teach modesty, not to stand at the pulpit giving graphic depictions.

How can anyone listen to that 30 minute rant who has any spiritual discernment whatsoever and believe this guy is a legitimate Christian leader? There is no sign of leadership, humility, grace, or any other Christ like attribute that comes to mind. What are you all arguing about? I would not let that guy within walking distance of my church or family.

I have no idea what was going on in that church. I am simply dealing with the teaching that external issues cause men to lust.

Jesus clearly teaches that is not the case.

This is not really about blame, but correcting false doctrine.

I haven't vilified him at all. In fact, I've gone out of my way to suggest that the pastor has simply been deceived. I don't think he's evil at all. In fact, from what others here say about him, he is a well regarded and honorable man. I have no basis to dispute that assessment.

Here is a graphic....go to midtown Manhattan in June & walk down 6th ave around lunch time. The Rev. Martin would be on life support. 6-9 in heels with short skirts that grab the b___ox. etc. Now your not supposed to have thoughts. Yea, right!

Thats right, thats why you got feet....ya walk.

But note.....nobody likes Fire & Brimstone sermons either. I doubt Jonathan Edwards could have pulled off what he did with "Sinners In the Hands of An Angry God" today. LOL

Upon reading the above post, I heard a noise. Upon investigating, I found that it was Jonathan Edwards, groaning painfully at the comparison of his sermon to the one we've seen here.

But this is the age old modesty issue in play again & church trying to suppress it. You cant, so I find the whole thing hilarious. And your right, its a lust issue. Now try to restrict a 19 year old (girl or boy) from going out to a party. good luck. They are ALL EXPOSED to sex, drugs & rock & roll. Thats when you pray to God you're instilled in him or her morality & common sense. Peer pressure is enormous. And then there are the beer Goggles! LOL

So...since the world is crass and vulgar, our sermons must also be?

I think EWF deserves a medal for his fancy footwork and adroit swordsmanship during the last 10 pages.
