Causing Men to Lust

Gentlemen, what I am about to say may shock some of you.

Women can lust.

Where are the sermons, the books, the rantings, the "its about time somebody said something" comments teaching men to dress and comport themselves modestly?

Ladies--why don't we speak up and tell them when they cause us to lust?

Is it perhaps because we accept responsibility for our own actions?

Ok gents--if we do that, maybe you should do that.

Now, I am all for BOTH genders dressing modestly.

But honestly, if you have a lust problem, YOU have a lust problem.

Jeepers - that was another point I wanted to hit! Thank you for bringing it up!! It's interesting how men's clothing is never addressed. Why is that? Oh yeah - DOUBLE STANDARD!!

I'd be awake from walking. I hate messages like this. It's very legalistic and offensive and could be handled in a MUCH more Biblical method that still gets the point across without having to be crude.

Thats right, thats why you got feet....ya walk.

But note.....nobody likes Fire & Brimstone sermons either. I doubt Jonathan Edwards could have pulled off what he did with "Sinners In the Hands of An Angry God" today. LOL

I LOVE fire and brimstone messages. Give me a message that is like an arrow to my heart - I love those.

But do not give messages that are so offensive as that one. Seriously, do I need an old man to tell me how to dress? Where is that in Scripture. Paul only said that women be dressed modestly. Did he go into it more? No. So who is to teach the women how to dress modestly? Women.

How old is this sermon in question?

Dont know few yrs at most.

But this is the age old modesty issue in play again & church trying to suppress it. You cant, so I find the whole thing hilarious. And your right, its a lust issue. Now try to restrict a 19 year old (girl or boy) from going out to a party. good luck. They are ALL EXPOSED to sex, drugs & rock & roll. Thats when you pray to God you're instilled in him or her morality & common sense. Peer pressure is enormous. And then there are the beer Goggles! LOL

Yeah that sermon wasn't necessary. There are better ways to get your point across. This is not a man I would give the time of day. Sorry.

Give me a biblically-sound fire and brimstone sermon and I'm all for it. But preach something unsound (like this sermon) and many "fire and brimstone" sermons and I'm going to have issues with it.

FWIW, Edwards preached (actually read) his sermons in a quiet voice. He did not shout or pound the pulpit like many imagine.

And yes, this is the real issue... Not a focus on clothing.

If you have helped youth develop their character by dealing with the real issues, a lustful heart and out-of-control sensuality, then you won't have to cook up a bunch of rules regarding clothing or blame the person of the opposite gender for "causing" lust.

If you hold to the teachings of Jesus over church standards of propriety, you clean both the inside AND the outside of the cup.

But the problem is that many in Baptist life don't know the teachings of Jesus, don't understand them, or just ignore them in favor of traditional religious morality/pietism. And why do we think we can call Jesus "Lord, Lord" and not do what He says without severe consequences?

I only asked because you said the guy was well into his 80's and if this sermon was a long time ago, then I don't want to push the envelope by having a discussion with him about it.

You were the one who told me to contact him. You offered to give me his phone number. I'm just trying to weigh all the facts about his age, the time passed since the sermon was given, and anything else pertinent before I answered his own request for comments. I'd LOVE to talk to him (in a polite and respectful manner) if he is still competent to talk about it. If he is passed the age that I should do so, then it would only be disrespect on my part.

I'm not about suppressing the modesty issue. The church shouldn't suppress it. It's Biblical. Why would I want to suppress it?

I just don't understand why cheap-sounding words and phrases are necessary for a man to use targeted directly at women.

Everybody who has posted on this thread understand the need for decent dress and behavior in both men and women, especially those who profess to be Christians. That's not under dispute. Everyone who has posted here understand that it's a big problem in the world today. Improper dress, behavior, speech, mannerisms, and more by both men and women are choking the life out of us.

Cheap joys - I've said it before - they cheapen us. And when practiced by the Christian - it cheapens the faith and makes impotent our testimony.

That's why I don't understand why the cheap speech in this sermon was accetable.

It isn't the message. It's the cheap version of what could have been a good message.

In addition to what the other ladies have stated about the men, here's my input. One of the best "sermons" and man can give is when he's on his knees before God at the church altar, crying out to God for forgiveness for not being the kind of loving husband and father he should be. Then let that man get up and lead his home the way he aught to and see if the women in his family start to follow suit.

Too often we see women worshiping, women praying, women witnessing, women rearing the children, while the men are conspicuously absent from both home and from church services. Men, if you want your daughters and wives to dress modestly, it needs to start in the home, UNDER YOUR LOVING LEADERSHIP. Then it can spread to MEN leading and mentoring other MEN so they will also become godly leaders. Then there would be no need for the pastor to even address this issue from the pulpit.

As I said I believe he is still active. Last year he was teaching at Montville to pastors. So if you reach out to him, perhaps you can reach him. Nothing ventured nothing gained. Right!

Okay. I couldn't resist anymore. Had to listen. I found nothing objectionable. I think the hostile reaction is that of an innate feminism indignant that a man had the sand to tell a woman how she should dress.

Haha!

Aaron, the instant I saw your name I thought... "Oh, Aaron is going to say it was a GREAT message!"

And you didnt disapoint.

If you are anything its consistant :wavey:
