Yep, the baptist way, think some one is down and then dig a six foot hole and try to push'em into it. Makes me wonder how may people refuse to ever come back to church because of the way you express this type of brotherly love! Wonder how many notches ya got in your gun there, cowboy!

Since Luke 2 IS the Christmas story, why is it you think it doesn't properly translate the Greek?

Christmas is not in the Bible. The birth of Christ is in the Bible but according to Noah Webster's first dictionary, Christmas is " The festival of the Christian church observed annually on the 25th day of December, in memory of the birth of Christ, and celebrated by a particular church service." Since there was not yet a Christian church and it was not December 25th and it was not in memory of the birth of Christ, it is not Christmas.

A proper translation into English? Pascha being translated as Passover and not Easter. :wavey:

That certainly does not read like a definition from Webster's first dictionary. Where did you find it?

christmas
CHRISTMAS, n.

2. Christmas-day.

My head is spinning.

Aren't you the one married to the KJV, which was first translated in 1611? Now, you're actually advocating that a word be added to the KJV for a "modern reader" in "today's version"? Since when did you start caring about "today's version"? What is "today's version" anyway? Why would the actual word "Christmas" need to be shoehorned into the Bible anyway?

I'm just not sure how well this plan was thought through.

Maybe it came because he finally realized that "Easter" is a mistranslation and should not be in the KJV, but rather Passover. But if "Easter" is in the KJV, then "Christmas" should be there also to make it a more "balanced" book. :smilewinkgrin:

I'd like to ask Harold Garvey to show me where Christmas is in the Bible given the definition of Christmas that I gave from the 1828 Webster's dictionary. Heck, I'll take a definition of ANY dictionary that he'd like to choose to use to show me one instance where Christmas is in the Bible.

You people dont define Christmas for the entire world with your references to paganism and the Catholics. Even Spurgeon has an entire sermon bashing Christmas in the same lack of light as you! Christmas is in our Bible and you cannot ever explain it way like all the agnostics try to. I must remember that I am dealing with Protestants and not true IFB. The fundamental truths of Luke 2 describe and define CHRISTMAS!!!
