Ann, I too do not see the purpose of a hospital visit in order to do a baby root canal and a bunch of filling and I've had this type thing happen. The kid's last "pediatric" dentist missed sooooo many cavities that Chris ended up with an abscess and I ended up with an $800 bill AFTER the insurance paid their part!
Unless your poor baby is terrified of dentists and won't sit still you don't need the hospital. This work does not have to be all done on one day. Life will not end and things won't get majorly worse by waiting and getting things done over a few months time. You will need a series of visits beginnig with the root canal. Do not let them put anything but a silver crown on a baby tooth. Insurances do not like this.
If you like the dentist you saw yesterday, get them to call your insurance company and find out how much the insurance will cover and give you an estimate of how much will remain. Then you can make a better decision of who you want to use. There are NO dentists on my plan in my area. I always end up paying, but by the time I drove 60 miles to the nearest one that I might or might not like, I wouldn't save anything. The insurance folk at my dentist are very good about finding out how much my plan will pay and telling me what I'll have to cover.
Watch out for what type of filling material your dentist uses. There are at least two different types and my insurance wouldn't cover the entire price of the filling material my dentist of choice used. I paid for the rest(willingly).
Right now, we are in the process of getting two of T's teeth root canaled and crowned, so I feel your pain. Guess how we will be stimulating the encomy?
Cuz, we have promed and now we are headed to Mobile for the ITA spring festival where our Tae Kwon Do instructor will recieve his Master's status and perform his Master's Demo.
I'll be back Sunday or Monday.
Sue, get yourself well!
The rest of you, enjoy your weekend!
