I had one experience back in 2000. A new apartment building the wife and I rented from when we first got married. These units weren't stacked in levels, but a single floor apartment with four units side by side.
One night at about 11:30pm I crawled into bed and had been laying there for about 5 minutes still awake. My wife was at work so I was alone. I was laying on my side facing away from the bedroom door. Suddenly I felt a cold chill on the back of my neck only and felt like the hair on the back of my neck standing. It was almost instinctive that I sat up and turned to look at the door, I can't explain why I did, I just felt to do so when I felt this chill. I saw what looked like a black mass or shadow about four feet tall and 3-4 feet wide slowly moving along the foot of the bed. I then shouted "hey" and it suddenly picked up speed. All I could do then was roll over, cover my head under the blankets and start calling on God. After about 20-30 seconds I worked up the nerve to look again. Nothing there, I felt at peace, slept just fine the rest of the night. I never had another experience at that apratment again. In fact, that is the only experience I have ever had in my life.
In the late 90s I kept having a recurring dream that would horrify me and wke me up. This happened about ten times within a 12-14 month period. Same dream. I'm driving my pickup on a backroad connecting two towns, one in which I lived. This road has been famous around the area for having multiple fatal accidents. I would be driving in the middle of the day, then suddenly a very scary face wwould appear in my rear view mirror, my arms and whole body would be pinned against the seat, I'd lose my breath and couldn't scream and this face would start laughing as the truck would suddenly veer into an oncoming vehicle or into some of the swampy parts along that road. I would wake up before any kind of collision or impact. Don't know if dreams are influenced or just a psychological explanation. Just weird and scary.
