Some folks inherit star spangled eyes
They send you down to war
And when you ask them, "How much should we give?"
They only answer, more, more, more

God is Love Through Jesus Christ our Lord of lords and King of kings. Jesus Said to Love Thy Neighbor.

Even though I do not like the present administration, I Pray Everyday for them, that God will Open Their Hearts to Jesus Christ.

Three posters here say people apposed to government handouts hate the poor.

Unbelievable. Not surprised about who they are, but still. To accuse someone of hate ?

I ask the folks who said "yes"....why ? Especially go2church. What is the basis of your accusation ?

Please explain to me my hatred.

That's why it's poorly worded. The related context wasn't given, just a question poorly worded of the likes, do you still beat your wife. There is a lack of concern for poverty among the church in America, generally speaking, so yes.

I don't know if hatred is the motivation, but the disdain for helping the poor through government assistance is striking, so unfortunately, hatred can't be off the table. Some would surely say it isn't help I'm opposed to, but the way the help is given. Okay policies can be debated but not wanting the government to help its citizens at all is irresponsible and frankly unethical.

When Jesus returns we will have a lot to answer for in this area. To my shame, I will not be exempt. I have begun to turn that ocean liner in the other direction but my previous financial choices have made that turning slower then I would like. Thanks be to God, he still works through the flawed.

Actually it is irresponsible to use the government to help the poor. It is not what this country was founded on, it is a poor way to handle resources, and it always comes with some control over your life. What is unethical is allowing politicians to use assistance for the poor as a political tool to further a much different agenda.

This country was founded on self reliance. Putting people on the government dole tears down their spirit. If the government wants to spend money on something spend it on doing things that makes people self reliant. Not reliant on the politicians with an agenda. That is all welfare is.

When people get to the point that they cannot accomplish anything without the government then they have become unimaginative and lazy.

Hope you're never in a position of need and someone who thinks the same as you is in charge.

Your comments are disturbingly ignorant and uncaring

My guess, go2church, is that many on the board who espouse the philosophy you are protesting are Generation X'ers. This generation has been call the most selfish and narcissistic generation in our history. At one time this group was called the "Me Generation".

I do believe the time period we were born in greatly affects our attitudes about all of life.

Comrade, we know you have no real concern for the poor. In reality you are a thief. But you are good for the Revolution, so keep up the propaganda.

The assumption by the extreme far left wingers in this thread and in this country is that if you do not want to government involved then you do not want it done at all. Fact is conservatives are far more engaged in giving to those with needs than the extreme far left wing will ever be. And that is most likely true of those in this thread.

They do not have the imagination nor the gumption to come up with ideas in how to do it on a personal level without government. Government is their go to guy for everything. I suppose some people just need a King.

Source please with a breakdown by the age of the giver.

Also, if you are including offerings and tithes to church that would make a big difference ... but we know that churches use the vast majority of their money for salaries and paying off debt. Very few churches pass on to help people in need. Does you church pass on 10% or more to others? The one I attend does and will continue to do so.

Iggnorant is believing government is the resolution. Pure ignorance is not knowing how to accomplish a thing unless the government takes care of you. Ignorance is not understanding what these welfare programs do to people. Ignorance is believing that those who oopse government intervention do not care.

The far left like yourself is the height of ignorance.

More ignorance here as if the church is the only other option. Again lack of imagination. Actually it is a false argument to try to justify that cannot be justified.

What can you think of to make people in need self reliant? Anything at all?

This quotes shows the idiocy of the left wing. The reason I hold my opinion is because of when I was born. (Too bad, I was born long before the X-ers) It simply cannot be that we actually have convictions and believe that the best use of giving to help those who cannot help themselves is to help them directly rather than giving it to the gov't so they can take their cut out of it.

You want the gov't to force you to give because you're the selfish ones. You're the ones who won't give unless someone makes you by way of taxes and assessments. It shows by how you think you've done something for the poor by your remarks about your church.

I don't think the government involvement is evil like most here.

Only on this board does that make me a far left liberal of the worst kind.

It's easier to hate the government then to actually help, to talk in theory and "if i was in charge" statements. I don't think the government should be the only type of help out there, but it does have a role to play.

If ignorance is bliss you my friend are in nirvana.

It is contrary to the founding of this country.

Oh it goes beyond this board I can assure you.

It's easier to hate the government then to actually help

There is no help from the government. Only control and poverty.

, to talk in theory and "if i was in charge" statements.

Who did this?

I don't think the government should be the only type of help out there, but it does have a role to play.

This statement is far to vague. What the government is doing now goes beyond just a simple role. I do not have a problem with the government having a role. But the so called "role" it has now is bad stewardship, a poor use of resources, and goes against the founding of this country. It hurts far more than it helps.

If ignorance is bliss you my friend are in nirvana.

Yes we know, if it is not done the liberal way then it is ignorant.
