Doesn’t the cold and the endless snow get to you? Granted you have a Wegmans LOL but …

When I was a kid - it would start snowing in Oct - you would not see green grass until April.
Last week we had 8" of snow in one day - within 5 days - it was all gone! That is the norm now- We used to get close to 200" a year - now - only about half that -
Shoot back in Jan - we had several days of a heat wave - it was in the 60's!

If it isn’t in the 70’s I can’t use my hands anymore… so I understand NY is your home… still it gets cold. Now my son is getting 80-90 degrees and he can’t get used to that. Arizona has both a freaking hot and also a moderate climates. Even snow and NYC pizza (best in the USA).

Actually, the big problem for me - is that one day - it will be 60, then 20, then 40, thne 30 - then 60 again. And that is a killer for my knees- not that it just hurts when it gets cold - but the constant change in weather.
My wife has a good state job and will retire in about 5 years - the we might consider moving

I still like the snow - we get about 90"/year in the Maine foothills and there's still 18" atop my garden with a bit more coming tonight. I was having fun in my forestry job at age 75 when I retired in July 2021, but my knees made it hard to bushwhack thru the Maine woods. Also, I didn't have the ability to run tree growth computer models, nor expertise in geographic information systems. Happily, my former employer (Maine Bureau of Parks and Lands) managed to poach an experienced field forester with those skills from Baxter Park.
I summered in Baxter every year and walked Kataden… so if your a big Boy Scout, yea but I’m not interested. I want a few acres of land for chickens, for horses, for gardening, for my dogs. I can be up at 3am to do chores dependent on warmer climates. Plus, I need to be close to a good cancer hospital.

Much will depend on my sons next employment… will he snag a job with Porshe in Atlanta or move to Mercedes… it’s too early to say… but it won’t be in the snow belt.

What about early retirement? My wife has stage 4 and that puts whole new spin on life. Plus 5 years changes everything… you won’t be a factor in your grandkids growing up. It’s a choice my friend.

I retired in 1995, and it has been such a struggle... :)
Do you have a part time job… then where do you live? NJ is more liberal so while they kill you with taxes they are good with social services and that’s a balancing act. Now I had a very responsible job for a long time so a crap job at a retail store with minimal pay is in effect insulting but I am over 65 so who is going to pay me on experience… LOL :confused::confused:

The Mediterranean climate appeals to me as well as the seafood… my Greek and Italian ancestors would like your world. But my grand children need me to be there for them. Plus I’ve heard concerning reports about your government’s stringent Covid policies. In short, I won’t run away from my parenting obligations and my wife would never bear to be separated from her grandchildren.

Bruv, I understand. I just wish you could bring your entire family and extendeds here.
We invite many whining British/ Pom retirees and families here, but I would much rather Americans or more particularly American conservatives here, we love them to pieces.
Went round to one American blokes place and he was building a Thunder Mustang under the house, had the best selection of South Australian Shiraz’s on earth in the cellar. Top Reloading gear for working up the best target and hunting loads. He totally understood the whole retirement thing.
Americans in my experience are beautiful resourceful people.
Took some Americans from Indiana under my wing and out on the air boat fishing and they really loved it. Fishing for mangrove jack and Barramundi. It was a bad dangerous area for crocs and things but the old the bloke said it was the greatest adventure of his life. His face said he really meant it. They really appreciate things, whereas the Poms didn’t get what we were showing them.
I took them to a place where only I and my aboriginal brothers go, they thought they were on the island of Kong and half expected dinosaurs to jump out. That place is very unique, but no damage was done and we showed the wonders in 30-45 minutes and took off again.
This is the Wild West and many locals don’t even know the extent of it. It’s Primordial and untouched by man in many areas.
But there is the life style, climate and beauty here.

The Brits are tough people but have been living in socialism for so long they have been polluted by it. But many here in the States are succumbing to this thing called “wokeness” which is corrosive liberalism. So if you are really interested in attracting US Expats then read up on what the Prussian Elector did with the French Huguenots to entice them to settle in Germany (instead of other competing place's) Of course your government would have to want to compensate US citizens to leave and resettle … so do they?

So in essence - pay has to be a bit higher - which in turn causes the business to raise prices.

The average pay then is about 90,000 per year - so many people to contribute
What is the average salary in Australia? (2023 Guide)

Average earnings in Western Australia is about $100,000 per year. We have a massive resource sector that is propping up the entire country. We have a huge independence movement here as well.
We would be the richest country in human history per capita if that was ever achieved. The coof May have fuzzed recent figures however.

I hear that your Democrats are trying flood the country with prospective socialist voters by their open borders policy. A type of demographic genocide of conservatives.
It’s a stupid move because Conservatives are what keeps the dream alive. The economic magic only happens by the hard working, innovation from conservative values. A nation over populated with moochers just becomes a great hellhole and dies.
That’s why I say bring your values and when here, vote your values.

We have a serious American deficiency, bring your tired and abused bill of Rights and Constitutional values to a place where it would truly be appreciated.

I’m concerned that your country is bowing to governmental interests that bow to the oligarchs and their socialist cronies like WEF, WHO, etc. If true, then you will indeed need help combating them and it’s exemplary that you and hopefully your countrymen are attempting to fight them. Good for you… but we Americans have much invested in the country… we are the light on the hill of freedom, rule of law & western values. Indeed the Socialist and Communist countries envy us these values. I’m proud of this because my ancestors worked hard to both build and defend the values… so why would I consider moving to another country, especially if our rights are not protected by the constitution. Seriously would be hard pressed to take your proposal seriously. Sorry!

You’re right mate. America is the most advanced culture of Liberty in the world, and countless young blokes with only hope in their hearts died in the field to make it that beacon of light.
Perhaps Australian conservatives and libertarians should holiday in Mexico and take the opportunity to cross the border illegally in their millions.

The truly logical thing to do would be to make Australia the next State in the Union. Not become a republic but join the Republic that matters, with a Bill of human Rights.

Looked into it a little bit. Tennessee is where I would retire if I was a God fearing conservative American.
Milder climates, low taxes, trapping and hunting culture. Good healthcare.

Would prefer to buy a few acres in the country where I can put up a garden, raise chickens and a horse or two for the wife and grandchildren… oh and have the dog run comparatively free.

Sounds good, everything except the hay-burners; they're an accident waiting to happen, but some people really love them.

My wife raised and bred them since she was a little girl … mostly standard bred and quarter horses… one was from the King Ranch in Texas. I’d rather have a mule… they are sure footed. This would be owned by me for the grandkids to ride. Funny but my great grandfather used two teams of horses to plow his fields… sun up to sun down. Tough old guy!

I live near the ocean in southern California. I have never "worked" for a wage since I retired. I own my house and therefore my housing cost is comprised of utilities, upkeep costs, taxes, and insurance. During the period of my retirement, until the voters put the lunatics in charge the last two years, the inflation rater did not destroy my savings or fixed pension. The law of averages suggests I will not need my retirement income for more that a dozen years, so I am not seeing the need to stock up on pancake mix yet.
