I have done no such thing! I have told you already that I don't hate Americans.

You need to provide more facilities to house them together securely...as we do here
I agree, but getting congressional unanimity for the funding - that's a problem!

Self made victims at least in part.

And ya, I'm a sinner.
Right, ok, so if your home is destroyed and your life threatened by the government or gangs (or even government gangs as if often the case) in.your country of origin, you're a 'self-made victim'. Wow.

The proper way to seek political asylum in the US is by making application at the US Embassy/Consulate in the country where you live. The alternative method is to already be legally in the US and apply for permanent residency status as a displaced person or a person who would be in significant danger if returned to your home country.

An illegal mass invasion of the border is not how it is done.

Sure they can stay home...and be condemned to death.

They all seem to be claiming that is what is going to happen. These people are not our responsibility and they need to deal with their problems there, or claim sanctuary in Mexico. Do you realize that they had to travel over 1000 miles to get here?

I am sickened by the [Personal attack edited] attitude displayed by some on this thread. American certainly can no longer call itself a Christian country if this is anything to go by!

We do and have done more for the whole darned world than any other country. We send millions of dollars to these Central American countries every single year, now we have to take in their citizens too?

You're Catholic, right? Presumably you therefore feel yourself bound by the likes of Exsul Familia Nazarathana and other key Catholic social teaching documents on the subject...which are largely at odds with your opinion stated above

Yes I am Catholic and my government is a secular institution and I want them to act in the best interests of the taxpayers, the nation at large, and by adhering first and foremost to the U.S. Constitution.

As for the the Catholic encyclical you mentioned, it dealt largely with the millions of displaced people in the aftermath of WW2 and my nation literally saved a great many and through the Marshall Plan rebuilt war torn Europe. As for other current worldwide social programs, we have gone above and beyond the call of duty concerning this issue. Our conscience as a nation remains clear and intact, and when it comes to helping others we are second to none.

On a personal level, I take seriously Gods command to take care of my fellow man through my own charitable giving.

You need to quit worrying about what we do here. We fought a war and ran you out so that we did not have to follow your orders.

Nope: if they have extended family members already in the US, they should be placed with them

Ditto

No, we put them together in asylum centres whilst their claims are being processed. We don't split them up like this Republican 'pro-family' (yeah, right!) Administration.

It has to be an imprisonable offence Usually, unless there is good reason to remand in custody (charged with a violent offence, likely to re-offend, interfere with witnesses, etc), they are granted bail. We have this thing called a presumption of innocent until proven guilty, and that guides our judicial process. I thought you did too(?) You don't do patronising very well, do you? I don't hate Americans, just the values and attitudes that gave the world Trump; fortunately, less than half your population subscribe to that false creed.
Jealousy runs deep. It eats you that we are the current world empire and that you have been reduced to an island.

Ya, by not having the wisdom to see it coming and making preparation. Also I support the second amendment - especially being a veteran.

There is a huge increase of single men showing up accompanied by a child. When individually questioned, they know nothing about the other. Today, the HS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen spoke at the daily briefing, she said,

“So I want to be clear on a couple of things. The vast majority, vast, vast, majority of the children who are in the careof HHS right now, 10,000 of the 12,000, were sent here alone by their parents. That’s when they were separated. Somehow we’ve conflated everything.”
Her statement is not factual. The real data is in the Washington Post article I posted in a companion thread.

yeah, wapo knows more than who is in charge, plus they can change their story tomorrow on page 17 with a tiny box retraction, if they get called on it. You’re funny. meh.

You are aware, are you not, that 53% of Hispanics are "white?" Are you claiming they are afraid of themselves?
No I am not. I'm saying there is a healthy fear of people in this country. Interesting though.....whenever I fill out an application for employment I am always asked my race....am I White, am I Black, am I a Latino blah blah blah. This is actually the government asking .....so do they distinguish white from black from Latino?

I surfed and watched the cacophony on TV RE: The "babies ripped from their mother's arms".

Unbelievable! and I mean that literally. the left representatives are actually hysterical - well a couple of them.

shaking and almost loosing control in the debates.

I cannot discern whether they are out of control because of their passion for the children or frantic because the president keeps climbing in the polls and they are now descending publicly.

The insults for president Trump were coming forth at an unbelievable rate and manner. I could see others were actually embarrassed by the tirade(s).

Out of 12,000 children that are now in custody, 10,000 arrived here unaccompanied. So all this ruckus over 2000 kids who arrived with a parent and is now separated from them is ridiculous. This is all political, a ploy by the left to gin up their voters for the midterms.

And what about Phil 3:20? The OT prophets crying out for justice for the poor?

As for the the Catholic encyclical you mentioned, it dealt largely with the millions of displaced people in the aftermath of WW2 and my nation literally saved a great many and through the Marshall Plan rebuilt war torn Europe. And what about 70 years later: have you run out of compassion? I gave that encyclical as one example. You will of course be aware that there are many others and indeed a whole corpus of Catholic social teaching documents in a similar vein.

On a personal level, I take seriously Gods command to take care of my fellow man through my own charitable giving.
Good. Now please do what you can to influence your government to behave in a similarly Christian fashion.

They are being held pending trial. We have county jails all over the nation full of people being held pending trial. None of them have their kids with them.
Clearly they weren't before last month and therefore there is a better more humane may of doing it.
