How can we be truly saved?

Never ending debates about salvation are going on in every christian discussion board around the world wide web and there seems to be no definite and concrete way arrived at by the participants. Is there really a definitive teaching from God or Jesus that we can cite for us brothers and sisters to agree on totally?

How can we be truly saved?

Brother, I am not being snippy, but there is only one way any of us can be saved, by grace through faith, not of ourselves, but it is a gift of God. Not of works, lest any man should boast. This is the only way.

But how is that in our actual life, what must I do today in order for me to be saved?

God must save you ! And if He does, He will reveal it to you by giving you Faith to embrace the Gospel of your Salvation. However, whoever Christ died for [which was not everyone without exception] are saved from the penalty of their sins because He by His Death hath satisfied God's Law and Justice for them by His Blood !

Be careful of people who talk to you about salvation apart from Jesus. I have been saddened by the responses so far.

Act 4:11 This Jesus is the stone that was rejected by you, the builders, which has become the cornerstone.
Act 4:12 And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."

There is only one way in which salvation comes and that is by our Lord and Savior Jesus.

Joh_14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

God the Father provided salvation through faith in His Son whom He sent to dies on the cross to pay the sin debt for us.

Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Salvation is a gift given to us by God that must be received in the manner that He prescribed. Through faith in His Son Jesus.

Rom 10:9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
Rom 10:10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.

Some will argue that believing and confessing is a result of salvation, others will say that it leads up to salvation. Either way it is without doubt a necessary part of it.

Jesus saves a person when they believe and confess when they call on the Lord. Sometimes all those things do not happen at the same time. Sometimes too much doubting taints belief. Sometimes a person takes a while before they fully admit that they are sinning where there is sin. Sometimes a person has to get forceful about Jesus saving them and actually search hard. Sometimes they have to keep knocking.

There are some here that want us to believe that only those who have been saved first are to feel sorry for their sins, but tell me this, why would being sorry for sins be expected of someone after being saved, but not be something that is also required before they are saved? When a person that learns about Jesus learns that they are a sinner, and they learn that sin is something to be sorry for doing. How one can say Jesus saved them by merely saying they believe, but they not also be sorry for their sin, that belief is just beyond dense. There are people here that actually teach that.

We must be sorry for our sins and desire to stop them, if not, then why be saved in the first place? In fact, those people who are not sorry for their sins---they do not even come to the light!

Then you have some people here that say a person cannot even believe after hearing the gospel, until God saves them first! That is nowhere in the Bible, in fact, it goes against what the Bible does say. The gospel is the Creator’s words, it is a powerful message, it is a message that saves, it is where belief comes from, yet there are people here that say no, God saves them first by giving them the Holy Spirit to make them believe. The Bible does not say that we get the Holy Spirit to cause us to believe. We receive the Holy Spirit after we believe and obey. That is the Word of God.

Jesus says he reveals himself to those who obey him. The Bible says to examine ourselves to see if we are in the Lord, the only way we can know that Jesus saved us, is when we obey.

Well since you bring that up, Do you believe that Jesus Christ's Death in and of itself saves all for whom He died ? I do, what about you ?

The wording of the thread title and posts illustrates the ambiguity in the Bible and the gnostic characteristic of Christianity e.g. several conflicting words to define one spiritual state and arguments over what the words mean.

John 3:16 - For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believes in him will not perish, but have eternal life.

Simple gospel: GOD, Man (you), Jesus, Response.

God made you. (Gen. 1:1 & others)
You have sinned, separating you from the Holy God. No one is good enough for God to accept them on their own merits. (Rom. 3:10, 3:23, and others)
Jesus came to earth and lived a perfect life that you could not live, Died the death that you should have died, and took the punishment that you deserved. (the Gospels) He created the perfect merit of righteousness that you need to be accepted into eternal life with God.
Response: This Righteousness is a free gift (Rom. 6:23) that is Recieved from God by Faith. Trusting that Jesus' death was sufficient...ceasing to work for your own salvation.

Romans 3:22 ...the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe....through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God put forward as a propitiation [a satisfying, substitutionary sacrifice] by his blood, to be received by faith.

God tells us that salvation does result in a changed life that bears fruit in keeping with repentance. But these are products of the Holy Spirit's work in a believer, they are not they way one becomes saved. Nailing apples on an orange tree does not make it an orange tree...but if apples start growing on a tree...you may reasonably assume that it is a living apple tree.

So are you saying you reject Christianity? Or that you remain agnostic about whether we can actually know truth?

Just wondering.

What must I do to be saved? believe on the Lord jesus and you shall be saved!

here is the biblcal answer!

hear the Gospel, receive/believe in jesus, and receive forgiveness/new nature, and are saved!

(Know that the Lord enables one to do such, being a calvinist, but talking about what we know happens!)

God asks us to repent, which NOT to confess all known sins, to change our lives around, be sorry etc

means to have a change of mind regarding how I must have a saviour, cannot save myself, its understanding that my good works are zilch before God, must cometo Christ alone!

then we place faith in christ, and are born again!

So its basically realising that we are sinners, cannot live perfectly as god demands, and place faith/trust in jesus as our Lord and Saviour!

Work Salvation !
Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved. That is not a works based salvation but what the Bible commands us to do. Your allegation is false.

We can prove your allegation to be false with a simple demonstration.
Give us your testimony how you were saved. If you are saved how did you come to know Christ? Or did you also have a works-based salvation? Demonstrate that you didn't.

I agree that it is true faith in Jesus and only Jesus is the way to our salvation, but after that theory, what comes next on our part, is it enough to confess our sins? How do we know if we are forgiven or not?

Jesus saves a person when they believe and confess when they call on the Lord. Sometimes all those things do not happen at the same time.
What do you think is the next step that we must do after coming and calling on (inclusive of repentance) to the Lord Jesus? When shall we execute the step of believing in Jesus, must it come before coming and calling on to Him (Jesus)?

We must be sorry for our sins and desire to stop them, if not, then why be saved in the first place? In fact, those people who are not sorry for their sins---they do not even come to the light!
How do we know we are really saved after coming to repentance?

Then you have some people here that say a person cannot even believe after hearing the gospel, until God saves them first! That is nowhere in the Bible, in fact, it goes against what the Bible does say. The gospel is the Creator’s words, it is a powerful message, it is a message that saves,
When is believing suppose to surface, is it after hearing the gospel? From whom the gospel is to be heard? And by the way, is it the gospel, as a message, that saves or is it Jesus himself that saves, which is which?

it is where belief comes from,
And that is the reason why we do have now various religious denominations, beliefs, and faiths in God, isn't it? Many people make their own beliefs, religion, and knowledge about God through the bible, scriptures of any kind, and other written documents about God, do you agree?

yet there are people here that say no, God saves them first by giving them the Holy Spirit to make them believe. The Bible does not say that we get the Holy Spirit to cause us to believe. We receive the Holy Spirit after we believe and obey. That is the Word of God.
Seems you cannot see that you have your own belief on things that you read in the bible in the same manner that others do have their own belief on things they also read in it and their understanding may or may not be contradictory to yours, why say now that the bible does not say of such beliefs of others when both of your and their understanding/interpretation are only based on the bible?

Jesus says he reveals himself to those who obey him.
Is this really true to you, if so, how did Jesus reveals himself to you, do you have anything to share regarding this matter?

The Bible says to examine ourselves to see if we are in the Lord, the only way we can know that Jesus saved us, is when we obey.
How shall we now obey Jesus so that we may be saved?
