Many say they know and yet find scripture does not support what they claim, and others teach what they learned from others or ministers and don't even verify what they were told. So how do you know what is true doctrine. Christ gives us the following:

John 7:16-17 King James Version (KJV)
16 Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.
17 If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself

There are many in churches, and even among ministers, who would receive the truth if they faithfully, prayerfully, patiently, and persistently searched the scriptures with honest and open minds, instead of saying they know but yet reject what scripture shows. We need to be careful that we are following the true doctrine from God, not ideas and traditions of man...

John 9:39-41 King James Version (KJV)
39 And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind.
40 And some of the Pharisees which were with him heard these words, and said unto him, Are we blind also?
41 Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.

What shall we say to Christ when He appears and judges, if we reject what comes from God?

John 9 shows what happens when people follow things they hear from others that are wrong. The issue here was the erroneous idea that the Jews maintained concerning affliction that befalls people in this case a blind man. We can see it in the question the disciples ask Jesus when they saw the man who was born blind.

John 9:1-2 King James Version (KJV)
1 And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth.
2 And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?

Now It is true that all suffering results from the transgression of God’s law, but this truth had become perverted. Satan, had led men to look upon disease and death as proceeding from God as punishment arbitrarily inflicted on account of sin. This twisted idea was what the Jews were teaching as we can see from the disciples question. The answer of Jesus shed light on this erroneous idea, we see it here:

John 9:3-5 King James Version (KJV)
3 Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.
4 I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.
5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

Then the blind man was brought before the ones who taught the people this very idea and we see the straight testimony he gave to them:

John 9:17-25 King James Version (KJV)
17 They say unto the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, that he hath opened thine eyes? He said, He is a prophet.
18 But the Jews did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight.
19 And they asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? how then doth he now see?
20 His parents answered them and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind:
21 But by what means he now seeth, we know not; or who hath opened his eyes, we know not: he is of age; ask him: he shall speak for himself.
22 These words spake his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man did confess that he was Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.
23 Therefore said his parents, He is of age; ask him.
24 Then again called they the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner.
25 He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.

The blind mans reasoning was unanswerable, the Pharisees were stunned but notice what they did to the man who now could see. They excommunicated him:

John 9:34 King James Version (KJV)
34 They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out.

We must open our eyes to Gods truth, we cannot go blindly holding on to pagan and false doctrines. We cannot follow twisted ideas of man or false traditions, but must follow Christ and what He gives through His word. We must believe in Him and give worship not with falsehoods of man but in truth, as Christ, our example showed.

But do you close your eyes to Gods Word in order to heed a 'spirit' which contradicts it. No, its not the Holy Spirit you are 'heeding' but one from another origin that takes you away from Gods truth especially if it is from mans tradition or false proclamation from Popes or religious edicts of Emperors.

Apostolic succession ensures right doctrine and valid Sacraments.

    Short and sweet!

Now, to answer the OP's question. I know one thing, that it does not come through Ellen White and the SDA.

Of the ancient pagan rites and sacraments and unscriptural doctrine of tradition, but not from Gods Word.

You have to study deeply the true gospel and doctrine of God in His Word, then its easy to spot the false ones...Here is a good example..."“Federal agents don’t learn to spot counterfeit money by studying the counterfeits. They study genuine bills until they master the look of the real thing. Then when they see the bogus money they recognize it.” ... https://www.challies.com/articles/counterfeit-detection-part-1/

Kinda hard to discuss true doctrine around here - We should discuss why modern day 'Baptist' theology, is not actually Baptist theology ...

    The False Gospel of Grace...

There are whole threads now 'missing', being 'disappeared' by the enemy of all souls - the devil. The devil, a physical being, another doctrine denied by Baptists today, though not in the past, hates that truth is being spread, and must social distance from it as much as possible, and lock down as much as he can, while his time is still left. He does this through persons who think they do God service, but in reality they do 'god of this world' service, as it is written:

Joh_16:2 They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.

2Co_4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

2Co 11:13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.
2Co 11:14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
2Co 11:15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

The devil cannot handle open and public study of the scriptures, and alway resorts to other tactics. The devil has them think that erasing words isn't killing. They do not know their bible and are in great ignorance (not knowing).

    Anyways, good thread.

Another good question, is how to identify God's true church, for in scripture, it has specific qualities and characteristics.

Well, there are the faithful who see and hear what God has in His Word, and whose hearts are open to it and respond.

Apostolic succession is the antidote to pagan rites and unscriptural doctrine.

2 Timothy 2:2 ---> "And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also."

Apostolic succession in practice ---> Paul ---> to Timothy ---> to future generations

God says doctrine, tradition, and theology is over. The only thing remaining is the Gospel. So it does not matter if any is false or couterfeit. The purpose for it has passed. Repentance and the work of the Holy Spirit is all that is left to do.

The true churches would be those holding to the real Jesus and the real Gospel, not the Sda!

The thing is, that when you bring in pagan rites and unscriptural doctrine in and call it "apostolic succession", you are only hiding apostasy with a thin label, its still apostasy.

So if I go and steal from you and take your wife in adultery, and worship idols, that's all fine? I think not....

Do you think that any Seventh-day Adventists are going to heaven, or have a relationship with Jesus Christ, at all?

God saves us individually. "Whoever" believes in Him.. (Acts 10:43). Believers make up the body of Christ (Ephesians 1:13; Colossians 1:18,24). There are certain churches that teach false gospels, which will lead all of those to their doom, who strictly follow the teachings of those particular churches, but those who believe the true gospel (and not just whatever those particular churches teach) are saved regardless of the group with which they are associated.

Conversely, one's church may preach the true gospel and if one truly believes the gospel, then one is saved, (Romans 1:16) but if one does not believe the gospel, then one is lost, even though the official teaching of one's church is correct. Even in false religions and cults, there are those who come to get saved IN SPITE of what their church teaches and NOT BECAUSE of what their church teaches.

Amen, but we must read Gods Word individually so we know what is true doctrine, and not traditions of man or doctrines of demons which have entered into many aspects of our society and especially churches.
