Are there Christians who aren't "Spirit-filled"?

Yes. Being filled with the Spirit is separate from being indwelt. That is why Paul exhorted one not be drunk with wine, but filled with the Spirit.

The Old Testament Saints were filled, but not indwelt (on an eternal basis having been reconciled through Christ), whereas Christians are indwelt but it seems, seldom filled...

Actually, he needs the body of Christ, as jesus works in and thru his local assemblies now! That is why needs to get into a good bible believing church instead of the bad one now with!

He has that. Being Charismatic doesn't mean one isn't saved, it simply means one doesn't understand the Word of God.

God bless.

Speaking in tongues and preaching in another language are two different things.

For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. - 1 Corintheans 14:2
You have proven nothing with this reference. I could say exactly the same thing about me speaking Japanese in a church where no one understood it. I would be speaking mysteries, and I would be doing it in the spirit, meaning in a spiritual way if I were talking about spiritual things.

Prove to me that "speaking in tongues" in the Bible means what you say it is and not what I say it is. I have plenty of evidence on my side that the Bible word "tongue" simply means "language."

Here is just one example from the Friberg lexicon entry for glossa. Note that the typical Charismatic meaning of making sounds you don't know the meaning of is not in the lexicon. I have omitted the Greek words in the definition since they don't transfer to the BB.

"glossa: the tongue, Hom., etc.
2. the tongue, as the organ of speech, through love of talking, Hes., Aesch.; by word of mouth, Hdt., Thuc.; not by word of mouth, not from mere hearsay, Aesch.; so, Soph.; i`e, to let loose one's tongue, speak without restraint, Id.; pl., i.e. with blasphemies, Id.:-for
II. a tongue, language, Hom., Hdt., etc.
III. the tongue or mouthpiece of a pipe, Aeschin. (Deriv. unknown.)"

yes its very serious and the behavior I described is very inappropriate in this thread as it is in any thread.

Lighten up.

Sometimes people need a good chomping, and a little humor, if properly employed, can lighten the atmosphere.

Just because you don't have a sense of humor doesn't mean others can't have one.

God bless.

1 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,

2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.

4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

7 And all the men were about twelve.- Acts 19
What's your point? I believe this passage with all my heart. It's Bible. They spoke miraculously with other languages and "prophesied," no doubt about Jesus.

I shared the experience of Jonathan Goforth, who received the ability to speak in Chinese for the rest of his ministry as an answer to prayer. Have you ever "prophesied" about Jesus to anyone in a miraculously received language like Goforth did? If not, you should hold your peace, since you do not have the experience of those believers in Acts 19.

I videoed a lady in our church speaking in tongues. I left that church feeling that I too received a spiritual touch from just being in service...

Who got saved? If no one got saved, it was not the NT version of tongues. No wonder the pews are almost empty in that church. Revival is absent.

You are simply giving verses and personal experience, not proving your view of tongues using facts.

I can only say that I received spiritual experience.

Our Pentecostal Holiness church conducted its service in identical methods as the Methodist did in the 1800s. Back in those days they would encourage you to seek sanctification, and once received, they would tell you that the baptism was not that far away. Sanctification was received with love, spiritual experience, and a sweet spirit.

16 No man putteth a piece of new cloth unto an old garment, for that which is put in to fill it up taketh from the garment, and the rent is made worse.
17 Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved. - Matthew 9

Today sanctification is not being taught. I cannot believe that the Holy Spirit is genuine in the heart of the believer without a sanctified experience.

Sanctification is being taught all through Baptist churches. It is certainly being taught where I go. I am not the pastor, but teach in the Bible college. The thing is that we don't teach your version, or the old Methodist version. We teach that through positional sanctification we have all that we need in Jesus Christ. As we live the "Christ-walk" He gives us power to live righteously through His death on the cross. As my father's life verse says, "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me" (Gal. 2:20).

I was raised Baptist. Back in those days we use to go to Christian conference and the guys looked like gentlemen and the girls looked like ladies. The word was preached with conviction and would make you want to pray. Here is a sermon recorded back in the 1970's. This guy would fill the prayer rooms with saints and sinners alike and we all left with a sanctified feeling.

It simply was the same spiritual experience I received in the Pentecostal Holiness church.

I have been busy. I will reply

I am beginning to have doubts that I speak in tongues, and will ruminate more on this. John of Japan's analysis and Derrel's scriptures are compelling.

I come from a line of Baptists that believes in revival and soul winning through the power of the Holy Spirit--but not Pentecostal tongues.

Ever hear of my grandfather, famous Baptist revivalist John R. Rice? He saw about 200,000 come to Christ without ever speaking in tongues or advocating or preaching it. He would go to a city for a city-wide campaign back before the Charismatic movement, and invite the old line Pentecostals to participate, saying, "I won't preach on baptism, and don't you bring in your tongues. We'll just try to get people saved."

I would not have a hard time returning to the Baptist church if they...

Would have the word preached with unction and conviction
Have altar services where saints and sinners a like would gather around the mourners bench for prayer....

In my old Baptist church we had a preacher who caused people to do this... This is from a cassette I bought in the 1970's....

I prayed the indelible prayer:

If this gift of tongues is not from You then please take it away and no matter how hard I search for it, never let me have it. If this gift is from You, please open me up to the grammar of these languages.

I seem to have lost the so-called "gift of tongues." Of course, the real gift of tongues would still exist and I believe be for the modem day but as real languages, even unknown languages that are really used beyond this earth.

Now I have to see what the gift of interpretation of tongues is in Charismatic churches.

I seem to have lost my "gift of interpretation of tongues" as well.

I have prayed the same prayer on the gift of prophecy, and I still have it. In fact the first words to me were "Jesus is Lord."

I now know that "Word of wisdom" is in fact a spiritual gifting in wisdom and not prophecy. I would argue it is still revelatory in a real way though as the end product is for edification. Then again I wonder if the gift of teaching or preaching are revelatory in some way as well. The end product is for edification after all.
