Tim, you got your head in the sand. If an American man marries a Russian woman (we're talking citizenship here), the situation poses the question of where his allegiance will lie. I'm glad you brought up the issue of illegal immigration, shrouded as it was in the cloud of political correctness. How many Americans supported amnesty simply because they were married to Latinos?
It's a real issue.
The state has a compelling interest in the union between a man and a woman, and there is no more compelling interest than national security.
I thought a Christian's allegiance should lie with his heavenly citizenship.
And if both people, whether they are American, Russian, Cuban, Mexican, or any other nationality, are citizens of Heaven, then they should be able to get married. Granted, the red tape that is needed will be nightmarish, they should follow the laws of the country, in able to see that their marriage is recognized...
I'll admit, I know very little about immigration laws, but I do know there are procedures in place that allow US citizens to marry citizens from other countries, and national security is not at risk...
My wife's cousin is in the Air Force, while stationed in Germany, met a girl from Croatia... They got married in Croatia, and now they live in New Mexico. Nothing wrong with that marriage, they have 3 sons, and are a happily married Christian family.
The Bible speaks nothing about American national security.
You are taking spiritual concerns and applying them to national concerns.
2 different issues...
