Is Faith a Work?

The church is the body of Christ. A group of believers in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ who have placed their faith in Him who died for their sins.

Mary and Martha were Jews. Jesus had not died and certainly not been resurrected. There was no NT church before Calvary.

Amy what does Church mean? Look up the Greek word. It means the called out ones.

Can I tell you what simply ruins church sometimes? Like the other day when I was attending corporate worship. In the midst of an otherwise decent sermon, the preacher told the group that the Lord does not see our sins as believers. I have to admit that I had a real hard time not raising my hand. I would have liked to introduce this verse for discussion : Ps 66:18 If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:

Sure sounds like He not only sees and hears but reacts as well.

Oh Lord, help me keep sweet.:saint:... and doing all things decently and in order.

ekklhsia ekklesia ek-klay-see'-ah
from a compound of 1537 and a derivative of 2564; a calling out, i.e. (concretely) a popular meeting, especially a religious congregation (Jewish synagogue, or Christian community of members on earth or saints in heaven or both):--assembly, church.

What is a Christian? Surely you do not think the NT church existed before the death, burial and resurrection of Christ?

Were Mary and Martha Christians??

What he probably meant was that once we are covered by the blood of Christ, God sees us through His Son. He does not count our sins against us.

I think you misjudged this preacher.

HP: I know precisely what he said and I know what the Word of God says on the subject.

Moving right along,….. I am raising my hand on your explanation. :) What about this passage Amy?

Eze 18:24 But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.

The word christian was not used in the gospels but church was.

Ok. If you want to believe the church existed before the redeeming work of Christ, go ahead. But I've never heard anyone make that claim.

The NT church is the body of Christ, bought and paid for with His blood, which had not been shed when Mary sat at His feet.

What about it? Christ has paid the penalty for my sins with His own blood. I have eternal life and will not die. He is my righteousness.

Amy was Jesus calling people out during His ministry?

HP: ….yes, for sins that are past.

Ro 3:25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

Jedi, you will NEVER convince me that the CHURCH existed before Calvary. You can stop with the questions. Maybe someone else will be willing to discuss it with you. HP maybe? :) Since you guys are having such good fellowship.....uh, I mean church.

The Church existed before God created the universe. Or maybe about that time. Anyway, Adam was in it.

So....who will be your sacrifice for your future sins? Seeing as Christ only atoned for your sins of the past?
