Marriage preparation

My wife is out of control. You would think after 32 years she would learn. Well, this morning she got up at 4:30 to shine my shoes, and I expect the coffee made by 5. I sat down for breakfast, and she brings over two fried eggs. I looked at her in my usual stern manner and said, "I told you last night I wanted one poached and one fried." She said she was very sorry, and would correct the mistake. A few minutes later here she comes with a poached egg and a fried egg. I looked at the eggs, looked at her, slammed down the dish and yelled, "YOU FRIED THE WRONG ONE."

Donna, it is a joke. No need for mini sermon #254.

There is a huge difference between the man taking charge of the family, and dictatorship.

Man is not superior to the woman in any fashion. Scripture teaches equality and mutual respect. It is important to read ALL of scripture and not just the chauvenistic aspects.

Cheers,

Jim
Are you saying the Lord can be chauvenistic?

My Bible teaches me the woman is the purer of creation and the weaker vessel, this does not ever indicate equality.

maybe you can provide your resources for making this claim?

That is a really astute observation. Maybe you could explain how a woman is the purer of creation when Romans clearly says, "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." Just how is one purer with sin? If you had bothered to read 1 Peter 3:7 in the proper context, you would have figured out that a "weaker vessel" means physically, and has nothing to do with a man being domineering or not. In fact, if had you read the entire verse, you would see that husbands are charged with "understanding their wives, and honor their wives." Had you read the last part of the verse that says "so their prayers will not be hindered," you would see that a man's relationship with the Lord is directly affected by how he treats his wife.

By the way, Jim 1999 has forgotten more resources than you could learn in a year.

Actually, Harold, this is what the Bible says.

The word, purer, is only mentioned twice in the KJV and it’s not in reference to women. The word, pure, is mentioned 95 times in the KJV. Most of it is talking about pure gold, ointments, candlesticks, and other material objects.

A few places mention pure as in “God’s word is pure” (mostly Psalms).

Then there are a few admonitions from Paul to Timothy and other to keep themselves pure.

I can’t find where the word pure is talking about women.

The Bible does say that husbands should treat their wives, giving her honour as unto the weaker vessel. But that isn’t the same thing as meaning that she is a weaker or weak vessel.

"Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered." 1 Peter 3:7

Just as wives who are charged to respect their husbands "as unto the Lord", does not mean that her husband is the Lord.

Ephesians 5:22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord
.

Just food for thought, brother.

Wow, I haven't been on this site in months. I have been struggling with my christian walk and needed to be in christian fellowship and this was the first thread I came accross. What happened to the christians? To think that women should only be educated in household duties, child bearing duties and cooking/cleaning duties and how to please her man duties is being a Neanderthal! It is so sad... And I agree, a "Christian College Education" for women really is no education at all. Most Baptist women would flounder if their spouse were to die. They don't know how to survive in the world, or take care of finances, or anything else, but they sure would know how to cook and clean and raise a thousand babies!

I will no longer look here for Christian Fellowship, I do believe this site has been raptured and all the christians have gone home!

Say what? If you will read the posts in the thread, there are only one or two who expressed an opinion that you are criticizing. Most of the posts say what the Bible does, that a man is to cherish, love, respect, adore, and take care of his wife. That does not mean a man tells his wife where to work or what career to follow.

It is a full moon tonight.

That may be so, but it is things like that, that has turned my head away. I see it in my own church. I se these women who in the church are highly reguarded, but if something were to happen to their spouses they would be lost. I know we are not to live secular lives, but I believe women should be educated, not just cherished, loved, adored and be taken care of. That is all good, and teh Bible says a man should do that to his wife, but the fundamental church in my opinion really wants their women stupid. I see it all around me. It is very sad, and I wonder if that really is the way God intended for women to be. Maybe in Biblical times, but times do change and even God knows we are to change with the times in some respect. Still living seperate lives, but women need to be educated. They need to know how to pay bills, how to look for a job, how to interview, how do function at a job and support a family. How to be provider, mommy and daddy. Daddy may not be there forever, God may call him home at any moment. This is what I see around me.

We live in a secular world that is also a spiritual world. The problem with men that want an uneducated world is that they do not think past the concrete world. There is little thought to the spiritual world. For a man to think that he wants an uneducated wife so he can be assured of her faithfulness already says what he is about. People who do not trust others are typically not trustworthy.

My grandfather used to say, "Behind every successful man is a successful wife." I knew years ago that I wanted to marry a smart lady so that I could have an intelligent discussion with my wife. I wanted discussion that went past conversations such as, "Did you take out the garbage"?

Think about Deborah the judge.

I tell Christians that they should be all that God wants them to be. Most leaders are educated. I cannot think of any societies whop have uneducated people who are leaders among man and among women. Being educated gives not only knowledge but resources unavailable to the person who is uneducated or not very educated.

Yes, by all means, paint everybody on the Baptistboard as agreeing with the Neanderthals, even though most of us clearly don't agree with the Neanderthals.

The Lord will make sure you keep struggling until you learn not everyone fits under your brush.

My wifes fits the description you made, but one thing you've left out, all our things are paid for and she already has been provided for.

I guess you forgot some men obeyed the word and made preparations for just the very thing you decry as the ultimate failure of following Bible principles.

The problems we have in society today are easily traced back to a home where mama worked and the kids were left wide open to the world being raised by the public school system.

The public school system today is anti-God and anti-everything to do with Christianity, but certainly does not hesitate to teach islamic acceptance.

Maybe you're too quick to judge and only from the surface?

Have you read your Bible? I do not attribute any problems back to our school system. I fyou could then how would you explain that some of the most committed Christians came from anti-God atheistic schools. The fact is thta what I see is that the churches are so lazy and copmp, lacent that they are producing so called Chrisitans without any boldness and almost no Bible knowledge. It is amazing howe many students I talk with each week who attend a church each week and do not have a clue what the Bible teaches. You cannot blame that on schools.

Maybe you're too quick to judge and only from the surface? While that may be true of some it is not true of any that I taught at nor any professors I know personally. Shall I assume that all churches are like the Baptist church I pastored whose leaders invited the Mormon bishop to teach? Shall I assume you go to a church like that because of one experience I had? I have seen many many students come from dead and lifeless churches come to college and come alive because of other students who have been discipled.

Do you blame the decline in biblical literacy on the public schools too?

you are right, it's the lack of teaching in schools and churches, but that's what preachers are for.

Generally speaking I am right, personally on your experience I am just now beginning to find out.

Huh? I thought you as the pastor is the leader? You mean the pastor/ the leader/ the undershepherd is supposed to be led by some one other than the Lord?

I could and be justified when the public schools do almost anything but teach the Bible.

The problems with society come from the lack of preaching against sin. We're having problems in our church with people shacking up, fornicating, our youth group is turned into a "Christian dating service"( which fornicating is the result) multiple adulterous affairs. All this is due to sin and the laxidaisical approach to preaching against such. Do we have Bible teaching? All the time. The problem is nothing is "hammered" except "GIVE! GIVE! GIVE! so others might hear the Gospel and be saved!"

The public schools are presently teaching socialism and anti-Christiantiy with a muslim influence. Do you deny this?

I have two children in public school right now. Neither has been taught anything that resembles socialism, anti-Christianity, or anything with a Muslim influence.

Granted, they aren't being taught Christianity, but I do that at home and supplement it with teaching at Church.

You'd best do some research on just what they're being taught.

They are presently being taught that our history was a lie and are changing it to fit their ideas. Socialist/marxist ideas.

I know what my kids are being taught. Maybe you should do some research and figure out that maybe there are some schools doing as you say, but not all are.

Have you checked Matt's school district's curriculum? That would be the only way you could be sure of what they're teaching. Not every school district is doing what you say - not even ours in Metro NY which is as liberal as they come.

I cannot imagi9ne anyone on BB wanting their children be taught the Bible form someone they know nothing about. To think that things have alkways been good is not true. Sometime taker a look at the Jefferson Bible.

The problems with society come from the lack of preaching against sin.
The problem is not that at all. The problem is not in preaching but in doing. How many of those do you know who are preaching and personally making disciples, instead of an administrator in an organization called a church directing programs?

Recently my wife and I met a couple and the lady told us that she grew up knowing little about the Bible because she heard a lot of shout stomp and spit every Sunday but the preacher used the Bible very little. She knew what the preacher stood against but little about what the BIble taught.

The problem you suggest is because there is a serious lack of boldness.

I have heard of some but do not know of any personally. I know a Lutheran pastor who told me that before he started pastoring the church he is at the former pastor did that.

I do not for one second see the problems with Chrisitans as coming from outside of the Christian community but within.

Could you name five "theys"? I am in the classroom every day during the school year and have never heard that personally or from a student.
