It's been since January that Doctor Who was mentioned? Far too long, I think, and while there hasn't been that much to discuss, a few things have actually happened in the Doctor Who universe.
Easter Special: Planet of the Dead
It was pretty good. The monsters were good, Michelle Ryan was good and you have to think that the Master is being foreshadowed. We can also see how the Doctor has changed when he didn't take Christine with him. The Doctor as we've known him prior to Rose, Martha and especially Donna would have absolutely taken her.
The 10 Doctors
If you've been following the 10 Doctor for the last 2 years, then you already know the story has been finished. I almost miss not going to the site and checking for a new page everyday, including the times when days and days would go by without a new update. I won't link to it, but you can find The 10 Doctors easily enough and I encourage you to go find it.
The Next Special
The Waters of Mars won't be aired until November. In regards to Doctor Who, the BBC definitely subscribes to the old adage "Leave em wanting more".
New Companion
I thought maybe they were setting us up for Michelle Ryan to wind up as a Companion to the 11th Doctor, but the 11th Doctor's companion has been
announced, Karen Gillen. If you think she looks familiar (though I didn't),
she was in The Fires of Pompeii.
Probably a good choice by the new DW team to go with unknowns here. No established actor, or actress, would have wanted to follow either David Tennant or Catherine Tate, but "unestablished" actors would likely jump at the chance to star in Doctor Who. BTW, Karen Gillen is Scottish I think it would be cool if she was allowed to be Scottish on the show. She is a bonny lass.
The Next Special Bold Prediction
RTD said recently, and sorry that I don't have a link to it, that something's going to happen in The Waters of Mars that will fundamentally change the Doctor. I think I know what it is. The Doctor always makes crazy promises to people that he's going to get them out of whatever predicament they're in. Everytime he makes a promise like that I say, "how can you make a promise like that?", but he always finds a way to keep the promise. I think that The Waters of Mars will present a situation where the Doctor won't be able to save somebody that he promised he would save.
I'm also curious if his relationship with River Song is mentioned. In "Silence in the Library", she said, "You're younger than I've ever seen you." There's been all kinds of speculation from Whovians trying to figure out where River fits in the Doctor's life. Some have said that she only fits in 10's life and others have said that she knows the Doctor from future regenerations.
However, I think she's only referring to 10. I think she's human, thus, she won't know a Time Lord just by seeing one. I think she fits in between The Waters of Mars and the Christmas special. I'm interested to see if they reveal anything more about that relationship.
