May I remind you how I said that the time is coming when our police would attack the citizens, but you said it would never happen, and now you are justifying it. We will also see the military do it and they will take lives. The view point you are suggesting is why this all will happen. We have lost our way as a people as to how to do what is right. These people were not doing anything illegal and it will all come to light that this was an abusive attack by those who hold the authority and seek to push down the rights of the people. We are becoming no different the Labia, Egypt and many of the rest of the countries with dictators.
We saw our civil liberties shredded after 911 by our government and the military helped carry out those violations against the Constitution with armed solders in our airports harassing American citizens after thousands of military personnel had given their lives for the freedoms we have, or should I say had. This is only going to get worse.

The chancellor of the university made a decision based on safety and health for the entire campus, not just a group of protestors. Based on that decision, police were legally requested to remove personnel from the campus grounds.

Notice what the Chancellor's statement is based upon? Collectivism.

To sacrifice the individual for the sake of the collective. This nation was founded on the principle of protecting the individual. Not the collective.

Does that even matter to those here who are defending her? No.

I have no comments about the use of the pepper spray. Until you've been in the position of having to enforce a law, and meeting resistance, it's very easy to armchair quarterback.

Enforce a law and meeting resistance? These kids defied her "authority" and she met it with force. Law. We only care about the "law" when it serves our purpose. Otherwise the law be damned!

Hypocrites

Once again, Robert Snow shows an uncomfortable obsession with me, perhaps a crush, I don't know. I do know he passed over several posts that said the same thing I did, just to insult me. Since he cannot do it by P.M. anymore....

I guess I live, rent free, inside his head. He must be a miserable dude.

Yeah, I get the same thing from InTheDark unlike Robert he prefers to attack me while hidding behind the ignore button. Coward. Least Robert has the courage to do it out in the open.

I feel pretty sorry for the cops who have to deal with these idiots. My prayers go out to them and their families.

Wholly agree with you here. They show a LOT of restraint which must be very difficult.

As for the spraying pepper spray down their throats, where is the video? I didn't see that in the video.

I just like to point out hypocrisy when it is so obvious.

I bet Curtis has the longest ignore list on the board. He seems to relish in who he doesn't like to talk with.

Many of the OWS people are anarchists. They have no respect for others, much less authority.

Here is an excellent commentary on the OWS protesters that should be read by everyone, IMHO.

"Call it an occupational hazard, but I can’t look at the Occupy Wall Street protesters without thinking, “Who parented these people?”

As a culture columnist, I’ve commented on the social and political ramifications of the “movement” - now known as “OWS” - whose fairyland agenda can be summarized by one of their placards: “Everything for everybody.”"

Read the entire article at:

Nope. You put up a strawman. An imaginative action. Something yoiu "suppose" I must do. You have zero facts. Only insults. You are nothing but a gnat.

At this time, there are 4 current members on my ignore list. You are there because of your childish, taunting, insulting P.M.s.

Yes, you said this not long after advocating that snipers be used to execute people violating curfew.
Those who were violating a curfew were poised to do violence these people were not. These people were not breaking any law as far as I have seen.

I can tell them: The parents who allowed their children the freedom to express themselves no matter how it affected anyone else and the parents who said "You can be anything!!" - but then the kids realized that it's a lie unless they want to work REALLY hard and they don't.

It was in the letter to the Chancellor. I suppose the guy that wrote the letter lied though. Had to be because the authorities never lie or abuse their authority.

We all know that.

I don't care if someone is protesting the use of sugar in coffee, the more I see of police action against this group, the more I sympathize with the group rather than the police. At first I figured yeah, lots of hoopla and exaggeration, but then I watched the (8 minutes +) video and this one:

Here's another one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kNHXuf6qJas&feature=related

and I have to say...what I'm seeing appears to be extremely unjustified.

No, you may not--because I never said that. My argument with you was your unproven, unsubstantiated statement that many policemen who are guilty of police brutalityare prior military--even in the face of research I provided that indicated prior military service had no bearing on whether a policeman was more prone towards brutality.

We will also see the military do it and they will take lives.
Just like in the 60's, eh?

According to the chancellor of the college, they were posing a safety risk to the rest of the college community. The police were merely there at the chancellor's request to enforce a policy for the safety of all. Aren't you the one that said policemen don't get to make the laws, only enforce them?

A highly offensive remark it was on his part. This is how trouble often starts. Out of ignorant and unfounded garbage like that.

Gina, I have a question for your consideration: how long have the protests been going on? Weeks? And how much video has been put out on police response? You identify 8 minutes of video, for just this particular situation; how long were the campus police on scene before they started the pepper spray?

How come we're only seeing the video that puts the police in the worst light possible? Where's all the video of policemen showing restraint?

Some of you people scare me. I think the OWS movement is idiotic, but I will defend to my death if necessary their right to peaceable assembly and petition for redress of grievances.

I am glad many of you were not in Birmingham in 1963 or Selma in 1965.

The cops were out of control. Just leave them alone and sooner or later they will tire of it all and go home. All the cops did was give them more reason to protest.

Remember Kent State?
According to the chancellor of the college, they were posing a safety risk to the rest of the college community. The police were merely there at the chancellor's request to enforce a policy for the safety of all. Aren't you the one that said policemen don't get to make the laws, only enforce them?
Yeah. Sure. It was for "safety." Whose safety were they putting in jeopardy?

I got stopped by a cop Friday for lane sharing on my motorcycle (going between lanes of traffic during a traffic back up). He pulled me over and began to lecture me about lane sharing. I informed him it was perfectly legal in California and if he doubted it I would help him search the CVC (California Vehicle Code) to find any laws that address the issue. He declined knowing it was not illegal, so, instead he trotted out the old "safety" argument. "For your own safety, don't do it!" Again I informed him that as a motorcycle rider with well over 50 years experience that being beside the cars was much better than being trapped between them. He got all angry and said, "Look you, see this badge? I'm telling you not to do that!" I then reached into my back pocket and brought out my badge (which outranked his but three levels) and told him if he would like to debate the issue I would be glad to meet him in his boss's office before the end of shift. He didn't say a word, just got in his car and drove away.

The point is that all too many cops today think "contempt of cop" is a capital offense. A little civil disobedience is a good thing. It reminds the cops, and the University Chancellors, who they work for!

The best course of action is often to do nothing. These people did not actively resist arrest. Pulling back when somebody grabs you is reflex, not resistance. The cops were wrong. They were arrogant. Those responsible need to be held accountable.
