I doubt very seriously he was joking. He was a man very conserned about holiness and piety. I think he was mearly addressing both theological views in his prayer for sake of unity, since both believe only the elect will be saved. But that is My Opinion and only Spurgeon can aswere that.

Well , C.H.S. had a keen sense of humor . He also had a passion for souls . I do not think you can make this off-hand statement of his part of his cherished beliefs . Do you believe any more names can be added to The Lamb's Book Of Life Allan ?

You really need to read Rippon.

C.H. God predestine some to believe - elect.
D.L. God knew those who would believe - elect.

It can be assumed he was referencing both views in his prayer because they both hold only the elect are saved.

Even if it wasn't a prayer, he would not be joking in the manner to which you ascribe during a Revival Meeting. However, I am somewhat sure it was from his prayer.

And that is the new meaning of elect. As a citizen of a democratic nation you should remember that next time you vote.
You do not need to vote next elections as the candidates will vote themselves in Allan.

No the problem is that you NOT being in a democratic nation do not understand what election means.

You asked this same type of question before and here is the same answer:
Is this not how election works in my country?? Yep, and if you are saying our definition of election is correct then you are also saying D.L. was correct.

If only we had the foreknowledge of how the candidates would perform, we could elect the ones we want after they take decide do take office.

Wait....I just confused myself. How would that work?

Oh? And you would find me "clueless" on what regarding sovereignty?

"I say" from scripture. Did you ignore the rest of the post? the real issue??

I was reading "Tabletalk" (p48 bottom) last night. I guess that is y'all's devotional. Anyway, I love how the author said regarding regeneratioin precedes faith" (John 3). He says, "If you trust in Christ, the Spirit has given you the new birth..." Gave it, I guess, and we didn't even know it!? Or did we "trust" and then He gave it?? I don't see how this settles anything.

    You think i'm clueless?

What is tabletalk? I have no idea. Is it a calvinist publication?

Why would some publication settle anything?

Sky, would you tell me your eschatological position? Are you dispensational? If you are, why are all the pilots dispensational?... lol. My father in law is a dispy. As far as i'm concerned, and my wife by the way, he is a nut case.

There, i've been as frank with you are you are with me. How does it feel? I said nut case after telling Allan that was bad of him to say that about Burleson. But the fact is that my father in law is a nut case....

Spurgeon called himself a Calvinist in a day when calling oneself Arminian was a stigma (as it also is today, which is why Calvinists still use it in their literature to describe the "only other option" -- re: Tabletalk" Feb 2007 p43-50). Now imagine you are trying to get a work done and someone has laid a 100 pound burden on your back.

In fact, do you know that Calvinists developed special slurs to refer to those who broke away from their tenets?? Names like "anabaptists" ("rebaptizers"), etc. It was better to just take the safe title and draw your true work away from it.

NO, bro. I asked about my own description of sovereignty. Do you think that I have questions or problems that seem to lead me to a "somehow" theology??

Yeah, my wife gets it from the Presby church where she does her Bible study.

They are in the business of sanctifying the saints, are they not? Fact is, the Feb issue spends the last 7 days developing the Calvinist views of free will, God's sovereignty, prevenient grace, and "radical falleness." I'd like to get to these teaching points -- but yeah, their views are rather "sophomoric," IMO.

Dispie? Absolutely. There is no other way to explain OT vs NT -- true belief BC and AD. There are at least 2 dispensations. But how would that in itself make anyone a "nut case?"

From what you say, I can only conclude that there is nothing about dispensationalism to explain his state of mind. So I'm fine with "frank." :D

Added to the church, not the lambs book of life. They were already there.

Actually, if I understand the "book of life" right, ALL names are written in it and in the course of time names are "blotted OUT."

Certainly they are added to the Lamb's book of life -- else, they could not have "Their part taken out of the book of life" in Revelation 22:19.

Hmmm...From the way some talk, to be an Arminian AND a Dispensationalist is to be a double heretic.

    I'll take a double please.... :-D

Tabletalk is put out by R.C. Sproul's Ligioner Ministries.
I'm not sure what "sophomoric" views are, but I doubt it can be applied to the contributers of that publication.

Sorry, may I say "convoluted" views?

I did see that it was published by Ligonier, too. I also notice that there is an R.C. Sproul Jr. now. Heaven help us!

So God changed His mind? I don't think so. If you want to try to build a theology out of David's imprecatory prayer, maybe you can come to that.
