"Save yourself..."

I will feign surrender on this question. So tell me, Skypair, HOW can this be done [save yourself]?
The text tells us by "repenting," "being baptized" and "receiving the Holy Spirit," right? Now those last 2 are obviously passive on our part but "repenting" is active. And repenting is FIRST.

That is, God has the provision but YOU yourself must take hold of it. In the example of Adam that we are discussing, Adam came out of the bushes" when God called again. Adam quit hiding -- quit running from God -- and came to God. Surely you can see that God did not drag Adam out of the bushes, can't you?

Well Skypair, do you think you can save yourself?
Not strictly speaking, no. But you'll try to make me say it anyway, won't you.

BTW, I like your Christmasy logo.

God doesn't "drag" us to faith and salvation either. He call us, just like He called Adam. When He calls we come.

While it might not be "dragging", if there is no choice invloved, it is forced will and not voluntary. Love is never forced, as 1 Cor. 13:5 attests to.

SP prefers to drag his feet when it comes to admitting he distorts Calvinism regularly on the BB . It is his mission in life (as an enlightened one ) to so disfigure Calvinism that all will recoil in horror at such monstrous doctrine that we allegedly propagate . Even a moderator here calls Calvinism "damnable doctrine" .

You're too new to Calvinism to realize it but they will make this argument --- that with the woman at the well, the same word "draw" is used. It could not possibly mean "coaxs" water from the well in that context SO they say that, in that same vein, it does not mean "coax" or "influence," etc. in John. They say it means God forcibly, irresistibly "drags" the "elect" to salvation.

Rippon, it is for your own good that I do so. I have no bone to pick with you personally but the gospel says "Come unto Me all ye that are burdened and heavy laden and I will give you rest." But Calvinism says that most people cannot do so and further, that it is not up to them to come (which effectively excludes them from the kingdom).

Do you actually post on any topic...or do you just go around posting about others? That's trolling...

Just prior to that quote, Jesus said (Matt:11:27) "All things have been handed over to Me by My Father; and no one knows the Son, except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father, except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal Him."

First of all, the context of the passage concerns salvation. In v.20, Jesus condemns the cities which would not repent and believe when they witnessed the miracles He had done.

Jesus then says, "All things have been handed over to Me". If "all means all", then the salvation of men must be included in "all".

We know that is exactly what He is talking about because He immediately elaborates by saying "no one knows the Son, except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father, except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal Him."

So we see that to "know the Father" Jesus must actively exercise His will in revealing the Father to us.

He then says to "come". But that is not all that He says. He says to "learn from Me." The learning, in context, must be His revealing of the Father to them, according to His will. The result is "rest for your souls" which must mean salvation.

So you see, Jesus Himself said no one can know the Father unless He (Jesus) exercises His will to reveal Him.

peace to you:praying:

Act 2:40 (Geneva Bible, 1599 Edition):
And with many other words he besought
and exhorted them, saying,
Saue your selues from this froward generation.

Yes, you can save yourself from this
perverse generation. You cannot save
yourself eternally, but Jesus can!

Act 4:10-12 (Geneva Bible, 1599 Edition):
Be it knowen vnto you all, and to all the people of Israel,
that by the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth,
whom ye haue crucified, whome God raised
againe from the dead, euen by him doth this
man stand here before you, whole.
11 This is the stone cast aside of you builders
which is become the head of the corner.
12 Neither is there saluation in any other:
for among men there is giuen none other
Name vnder heauen, whereby we must be saued.

Amen, Praise Jesus!

Lying will not further your cause(s) WD . You know that I post on many forums here . We have both been on the same Game Forum before as well as BibleVersions/Translations ( in which I have posted almost as much as I have on the Baptist Theology and Bible study Forum) . If you would have merely done a check on my posts for the last day or so you would have found me on the following forums ( in addition to the ones I have just mentioned ) :

It was an insult and you know it.

Show some grace and apologize.
Care to show where? Pointing out behavior (trolling) is an insult?

Did you just drop by from the other thread to make waves here, too? I suppose you approve of Rippon's desire to take me out back behind the woodshed, too.

You're one to tell someone to show some grace...

You wanted me to be consistent when calling out people on bad behavior, so I decided to start with you.

You called Rippon a troll. You implied he doesn't actually post anything. Those are insults. You should apologize.
