First off, it is lower case C and "cigar" and not "cegar".

But why is taking a dangerous substance that has absolutely zero health benefits "okay"? I don't understand that.

Oops misspelled the word. No there is no health benefits to smoking. I have not had a smoke since 1993 so there is no chance I would ever do it again.

Are you thinking of growing a beard, too? That's the natural progression of 30-something Calvinists. A little alcohol (usually craft beer), a cigar, then grow a beard. You can be a Reformed Male Stereotype.[/QUOTE

JB:You don't grow a beard because you're vain and ... . I'm not saying you're justified, though. LOL!

Charles Spurgeon not only drank beer and wine but also smoked to the glory of God. I hate cigarettes but how is a Cegar? Anyone here smoke? It's not good for you in excess but perhaps here and there would be okay.

JB: ''Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, FOR it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. [PHL 2:12-13]

Yet Spurgeon included this by Puritan Samuel Ward in his Treasury of David:

babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/pt?id=uva.x030374277;view=1up;seq=195

"Wherefore I say again, "Live by faith".... Is not faith able to rectify nature? Is it not stronger than any
hellebore? Doth not an experienced divine and physician worthily prefer one dram of it before all the drugs in the apothecary's shop for this effect?"

"Hath not every man something or other he useth to put away dumps, to drive away the evil spirit, as David with his harp? Some with merry company, some with a cup of sack, most with a pipe of tobacco, without which they cannot ride or go. If they miss it a day together they are troubled with rheums, dulness of spirits. They that live in fens and ill airs dare not stir out without a morning draught of some strong liquor. Poor, silly, smoky helps, in comparison with the least taste (but for dishonouring faith I would say whiff) or draught of faith."

Well, c'mon Evan--JonC, Revmitchell, annsni, myself, and probably a whole bunch of other people are waiting for you to tell us how you can smoke and drink to the glory of God. Why not tell us how that's done?

Smoking might be glorious if it gets the smoker to Heaven quicker.

Oh for the love of the never mind.

Anyways you can't smoke to the glory of God as smoking is bad for your body. Drinking however is another matter since the Bible does not condemn drinking I believe that God can be glorified in a fellowship with some good wine. That's just my opinion.

But smoking is not condemned in the Bible either and I know many people who have had some good fellowship over a smoke.

There have been plenty of "suppressed" inventors of non toxic ways to operate motor vehicles.
Too bad, eh?
Catalytic Converters has helped substantially.
A lot more can be done but the regulatory fear keeps it from happening.

Some regulations are GOOD!.

I have not had a single drink nor have I smoked beyond 1990 and there is no chance I will ever again! If any of you promoting the nasty to touch themhabit of smoking had ever seen a smoker's lung and were able to compare it with a healthy lung, both being close enough to touch them, you would understand why mt LORD will never find this kid in the Tobacco Shop again.

I was installing a new Switch-board at Methodist Hospital and a doctor saw me smoking and took me into his office where he had the two specimens and allowed me to inspect them. The healthy lung was bright and pink, just like the inside of an injured soldier. The Smoker's Lung was was dull or flat in look and was as black as a Ace of spades. You might enjoy it, I did, but it is not a thing you can do to the Glory of God.

Honestly, as an Air Crew Member, my Mustache and Pipe or Cigar with a shot of Wild Turkey 101 gave me an air of visual daring the ladies of the darker side loved. But I put all of that and my Guitars and Microphones aside for my LORD, and I only need to glorify Him now. Those habits of the old man do not Glorify Him any more than my shacking up with the young women that thought I was so cute with the Microphone shoved into my face. It is all sin!

After that let's snort some cocaine to the glory of God!

Just a little bit in moderation...
I can't think of one good reason why you would want to??
i can not agree with you more. In the period of 1980 to the early 90s almost all the smoking pastors cease. I also remember the days when the pastor used to say "Do not strike you matches on the door post." Smoking was quite common among baptists. Have we adopted a new commandment not found in the writ. Isogogics? Personally, my ethics revolve around four commands: 1. Love God 2. Actively love your neighbors as you would yourself 3. Do not fornicate and 4. Do not judge. These are biblical standards. So now we use isagogics to begin to judge by saying
, "Well, us know you body is the temple of God." Now we have created away making Holy Judging without biblical basis or at least a clear state, ent of condemnation. Our prohibition cigars and such can not be drag Paul's use of Pornea which includes potions, sorcery,Coke, Pot and greater drugs. I used to smoke but felt a prompting of the Holy Spirit to give it up. Thank God he speaks to us as individuals because 35 years ago an army of pastor quit. Just a few thoughts.
