The Cure for Calvinism

What needs to be cured are Christians who believe it is their mission to combat Calvinism instead of spreading the gospel of Christ.

I think there needs to be both but first the chief mandate is to preach the gospel.

The issues of Calvinism need to be addressed however lest new Christians get indoctrinated to what I consider to be a false way of thinking about God that can effect them the rest of their lives. With a new believer I don't think one should teach them to be aware of the falseness of Calvinism too quick....there's so many other subjects they need to be strengthen in and taught but if there are signs it's necessary on a case by case basis then there should be an emphasis put upon it.

Who can understand it? Calvinism is so complex, there's your proof it's of man.
Millions understand it. You are another one who shows no understanding of it but yet is ready to accuse it. It is one thing to believe something else. It is another to just make random statements that are only strawmen.

Good points.

The "anti" people can be just as problematic as well. We are not called to combat Calvinism, Arminianism, Freemasonry, drums in worship, or even the world EXCEPT as it pertains to our scope of responsibility (to our church as we build up one another).

It is not up to me to try to change another congregation's theology. I it is not up to us to try to change another Christian's theological position. It is up to us to guard the things that are in our responsibility, but even here we need to be mindful that we are responsible for the things we teach.

I have seen comments @Ran the Man offered attacking Calvinism, but what about what he believes Calvinism teaches? Calvinism is not a very hard theology to comprehend (although I agree that it is often fought against on dishonest ground). That said, what part of his words against Calvinism are strawman statements?

I ask because you have made the same accusation against me in the past, yet you have thus far proved inept at providing an example where I've misrepresented or misunderstood the theology. When made against me the charge was proven false. But I missed @Ran the Man 's misunderstanding.

In all due respect, that argument is worn out. In some cases, it may be true. Fir the most part, the accusation boils down to one has to either be a Calvinist or he is ignorant.

If I recall, your view is Classic Arminianism (I take it Reformation Arminianism).

One of my favorite authors from that standpoint is Robert Picirilli. If anyone wants to understand the value that could be present in these types of forums (if the cultic mentality were gone), read Grace, Faith, Free-will.

In that book Picirilly contended to present all sidedes in an honest way to facilitate understanding among Christians. He relied on Calvinistic friends to evaluate his understanding of and arguments against the view.

Here we get ad hominem because, I believe, @Iconoclast does not seem to grasp a Christian could dismiss Calvinism except through ignorance (an extremely foolish argument).

We have seen an amount of doctrinal interest in our culture, but this neveral materializd in an "awakening". I suggest this is because of a kack of biblical literacy as some have preferred theological literacy over biblical literacy. At the same I think (hope) the next generation will favor Scripture.

Which arguments?

How about, Calvinism caused witch burnings. Or Calvinism caused native American genocide.

Might as well tackle the low hanging fruit first.

Those do not speak to a misunderstanding of Calvinism as a doctrine.

I have said from my introduction post that I am a Baptist. I have studied a lot of denominations, but I am a Baptist. That is the denomination I was raised in and am now fighting for.

Baptist isn't a denomination. Which type of Baptist?

Who can understand it? Calvinism is so complex, there's your proof it's of man.

Hardly complex. I'm not even convinced you have actually studied it.

The Calvinists are taking over our denomination. They won't be so merciful when it comes time to witch hunt and pick out so called secondary points with you.

Newsflash, SBC was grounded in Calvinism at the beginning. They are returning to their roots.

Oh OK.... so now we are talking about Southern Baptists specifically. I don’t think Mac is a SBC member but I could be wrong.

No John MacArthur is not SBC.

This Ran The Man guy is classified Calvinists as an enemy to Baptists.... particularly SBC churches. Got news for you pal, Calvinists have been there from the start. So suck it up butter cup, maybe even have meaningful dialog with some of them, you might learn something.

Exactly

Ace Frehley is not a creep. He's quite a nice guy. Much nicer than John MacArthur.
Not a KISS fan. My wife is and we saw their farewell tour over a decade ago (Ted Nugent opened). I'm considering going this year if my wife will catch a Dead & Co. concert.....or we may spare the other and just go it alone.
