Doublespeak hypocrisy test: Does your Baptist church marry fathers and daughters? Married men and their mistresses? First cousins? Or does it forbid marriage?

I doubt relatives would make it through the pastoral counseling sessions. What a stupid question.

Sorry, but that is not a loophole. Otherwise, that means Christ would be condoning committing adultery in order to get out of one's marriage. He would be in essence saying if you want out of a marriage, simply commit adultery.

Let me know if you want the true meaning of that passage.

I already know it. It means if one's SPOUSE commits adultery, he may divorce her (or she, him, if he's the adulterer.)

That's not what it means. If it was, then to get out of a marriage, one would simply need to encourage one's spouse to commit adultery.

Let me know if you would like the meaning of Matthew 19:9 explained to you.

I believe it goes without elaboration that when Paul wrote that forbidding marriage was wrong, be was speaking about bona-fide couples who had no legal reasons to not marry, not just any two people such as siblings or parent-child, etc.

And again, that "church discipline" thingie is MAN-MADE, not Scriptural, & is therefore WRONG ! That's the bottom line !

You're batting 0.000 today.

St. Paul was warning his young bishop Timothy about the dangers of one of the earliest heresies, that of Gnosticism. The Gnostics prohibited marriage in order to eliminate birth, as they believed a human soul was a divine creation while all physical matter, including the human body, was inherently evil. Thus according to Gnosticism, to produce children was to impress a divine soul in an evil body.

They were also strict vegetarians and thus forbade eating meat.

FIRST - there is no such thing as THE Baptist church - every local Baptist church (regardless of denomination) is an autonomous independent church.
Now, I do not know of any valid local independent Baptist church that would allow a father and daughter or Married man and mistress to marry. (in fact, I am wondering why you even asked such a silly question)
As far as first cousins - if it is legal in that State or Commonwealth - I don't see a problem. Some local independent Baptist churches will forbid marriage in certain cases - such as divorce, or ect

Now, I do have a question: when you mention "The Church" - are you referring to the Roman Catholic Church?.

FIRST, for purposes of demonstrating your hypocrisy, presume I am referring to YOUR church (whatever you want to call it / believe it is). That is, the one YOU ATTEND.

So "valid local independent Baptist" churches forbid marriage. Thank you for conceding.

---> Hypocrisy alert!

I'm referring to the Catholic Church. The Roman (Latin) Church is but one Church comprising the Catholic Church.

I guess that Guardian article is perpetuating the same lie.

It's speaking of the Latin Rite only, do you know the difference? You need to get educated! You won't win this one, dhk and I had the same debate and he finally conceded he was wrong!

Jesus condemns divorce and remarriage explicitly in all four Gospels.

"He said to them, 'Because of your hardness of heart Moses allowed you to divorce your wives, but from the beginning it was not so. And I say to you: whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery.” - Matthew 19:8-9

"And he said to them, 'Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her, and if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.'” - Mark 10:11-12

"Everyone who divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery, and he who marries a woman divorced from her husband commits adultery." - Luke 16:18

"...for you have had five husbands, and the one you now have is not your husband. What you have said is true.” - John 4:18

Here is St. Paul affirming as well...

" For a married woman is bound by law to her husband while he lives, but if her husband dies she is released from the law of marriage. Accordingly, she will be called an adulteress if she lives with another man while her husband is alive. But if her husband dies, she is free from that law, and if she marries another man she is not an adulteress." - Romans 7:2-3

"A wife is bound to her husband as long as he lives. But if her husband dies, she is free to be married to whom she wishes, only in the Lord." - 1 Cor 7:39

You yourself made bold the part in Matthew which says except for sexual immorality so I think that you are saying that Scripture does not say what it says.

Do you think the verse is stating Jesus is providing a loophole by which one can divorce and remarry? If so, it means if you want to divorce your spouse and remarry another, simply have them commit adultery and you are good to go.

Actually, YOU hit into a triple play.

First: Where does Paul mention gnostics to Tim in Scripture? He doesn't !

Second: He said IN LATTER TIMES, which wasn't then, obviously.

Third: Paul wrote FOODS, not just meats. While gnostics taught these things were evil, they were ignored by most true Christians who saw they'd departed from the Gospel as presented by the apostles Besides them, there were other strict Jews, especially Pharisees, who likewise spread false doctrines. And again, Paul said FORBIDDING TO MARRY IS WRONG, no matter WHO on earth says so.

And your "church discipline is a direct product of those whom you cite, including gnostics! It's a TRADITION OF MAN'S, not found in SCRIPTURE. You CANNOT show us any NT Scripture which forbids a bona-fide man & woman from marrying.

Priests are not allowed to marry after their ordination. You are the one telling lies here.

Actually, YOU hit into a triple play.

Unfortunately, you're still batting 0.000...

First: Where does Paul mention gnostics to Tim in Scripture? He doesn't!

St. Paul's first epistle to "Tim" is full of warnings about gnosticism. He even ends the first epistle stating so explicitly.

---> "O Timothy, guard the deposit entrusted to you. Avoid the irreverent babble and contradictions of what is falsely called knowledge, for by professing it some have swerved from the faith." (1 Timothy 6:20-21)

This "knowledge" the Apostle is referring to = gnōsis ---> A direct reference to Gnosticism the early Church was encountering

Second: He said IN LATTER TIMES, which wasn't then, obviously.

The latter times began when God became man and entered into His creation...

---> "...but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world." (Hebrews 1:2)

---> "He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was made manifest in the last times for the sake of you who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God. (1 Peter 1:20-21)

Non-sequitur (No one is arguing marriage is forbidden.)

Strike 3.
