what?!? What kind of thinking is that? If we hate, we're murderers according to Christ, not "proving" our love for anything.

If God calls us murderers for hating, are we more righteous than God if He hates...in the sense calvinism uses the term? Sort of "do as I say, not as I do", is it not?

Hardly. God commands us to be holy as He is holy, and not to hate (murder) as he hates (murders)? Warped theology...

not what you said....but what I said.

I said..."hate is proof of Gods love."

And you get all red and mad. Yet that is Gods word.

If hate (murder), sin = the opposite of holy
God hates (murder), sin = the opposite of holy
    God is not holy
    God is not God.

Either your understanding of "hate" is greatly flawed, or God is not God.

Yet God says He hates in order to prove He loves.

Again...are you mad at me for saying this, or mad at God?

RE johnp and Section 12 - 14 of Calvin's Institutes.

I'm sorry johnp but I cant accept Calvins word on this one except to say that IMO he confounds repentence on God's part from sin and repentance on God's part from having made man and the grief man's sin caused Him.

Obviously God has no need of repentance from sin.

But other forms of repentance such as being grieved by man's sin and the resultant deluge sent to destroy him does exist.

Otherwise the Word of God is not reliable.

Also we are told in the NT through Paul to "grieve not the Holy Spirit of God"

Whereas Calvin says that this is not possible with God and that the real meaning is "his (God's) procedure is changed" and not that He repents or feels emotions such as grief, sorrow, anger, etc.

Why then did God need to be propitiated? Was He not offended by Adam's sin, our sin?

To be sure the how and the why of an eternal omni-everything Triune God being grieved it is a puzzlement to me, but I would rather live with that lack of knowledge than to deny the Word of God concerning God's anger which is stated so many many times in the Scripture involving his indignation and coming wrath.

Zephaniah 3:8 Therefore wait ye upon me, saith the LORD, until the day that I rise up to the prey: for my determination is to gather the nations, that I may assemble the kingdoms, to pour upon them mine indignation, even all my fierce anger: for all the earth shall be devoured with the fire of my jealousy.

Is God lying here? Is He angry or not, is He jealous? Do the words "saith the LORD" have any weight or meaning here?

I think perhaps some folks ought to put down Calvin's Institutes and pick up their Bible.

    My opinion of course.

What we understand the english meaning of "hate" to mean.

I don't recall the original manuscripts were written in english.

I have a clear understanding. It is you that is about to change the meaning, for it makes you mad. You hate to hear that your God can hate. It seems you will go to the point to change the meaning of the word, in order to please you. Will you do this? Or will you believe every Bible in the land?

    Hello webdog.

    Sure is. :)

Sort of "do as I say, not as I do", is it not? I'm sure you know about Esau.

The 'hate' being used in Rom 9:13 means : to detest. Just as it is written: "Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated."

    john.

Now you are being dishonest, James. I'm not "mad" at what God says, I'm "mad" at how the calvinist assasinates God's character.

It's clear you don't have a clear understanding of sane or miseo, or you would not assasinate God's character the way you do. It's bad enough johnp believes God is the author of sin, and that all sin are caused by Him.

This is not about the english word hate. Understand that first before anything.

My meaning of the word is how you, the calvinist, use it to demean God's character.

    As to God "murdering" eeek!

We are His creation, He can do with us whatever He pleases with us.

    Proof text
Genesis 6:7 And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.

Genesis 7:23 And every living substance was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and the creeping things, and the fowl of the heaven; and they were destroyed from the earth: and Noah only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark.

    Sodom and Gommorah?
Again, it is His right as creator but not for us except for the following:

    Genesis 9
5 And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man's brother will I require the life of man.
6 Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.

Please share one english Bible that does not use the word.

2nd...if you change the word as you would have it, it does not fit context..and changes the "proof" text as we shall see once we get there.

Are you saying God can kill someone based solely on hating him...but still calling that action murder and sin?

God isn't sovereign to the point He can sin, is He?
