There’s Still No Economic Case for New Tariffs

Sorry my pessimistic progressive friends, but, Trump has made his economic case for tariffs, based on fair trade and a level playing field for a change, and is putting America First, and the people have agreed with him. So, I suggest you take a back seat or find a safe room because there is a new movement coming that is headed toward American Exceptionalism and it is coming strong!
You can’t be talkin bout me cause I’m a greedy capitalist. I would make one commentary to Trump….. be sure you don’t screw this up.

so let’s not retire to our armchair

I am not going to become a hermit(I am a homebody, not a hermit), but I have spent 60 years following and dealing with carnal, worldly politics, and now I am retiring from it, just as I retired from my job as an accountant in 2017, but I still keep up with economic and business news even though I am no longer actively engaged in the process.

Proverbs 21:1
The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD,
As the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.

Colossians 3:1-4
If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.

2 Peter 3:10-13
But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness, looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

I don't think Trump will actually accomplish anything, America is either going to implode, fly apart, or become a right wing Banana Republic at some point. The system itself is unworkable and based on false ideas.
I have no position on whether Trump should threaten to our actually impose tariffs. But I object to the pure laissez-faire hypothetical entity that was used to oppose it by the OP. Using tariffs may just be a way to target internal political enemies, and to shut down globohomo leftist corporations, I'll gladly pay higher prices.
Can you give me an example of a globohomo leftist corporation ?

Quietism is what conservatives and Fundamentalists have been trying for years. It's never worked for anyone in history. Also, Christians are obligated to transform society, not hide from it. Politics is part of life, and political reality include corporate punishment and hierarchy, which is part of every successful Christian society in history. Again, go ahead and do nothing, it doesn't matter and changes nothing. I, however, am going to support the right wing dictator. I'll take Cromwell over Rod Dreher any day.
How are Christians supposed to do that?

@ParticularWife Just out of curiosity, do you consider yourself to be something along the lines of a "Dominionist" or possibly a "Christian Reconstructionist"?
I grew up immersed in Christian Reconstruction and theonomy, and while I agree with it on certain points I am a particularist, and I do not believe in universal civil codes and administration forms. The Bible does not mandate a specific organizational mode or set of penalties. The commandments of a moral character and our own loyalties and good judgment must be used, and I don't think that goes anywhere near democracy.
That being said, if Doug Wilson and Mark Rushdooney start a country that outlaws fiat money and institutes stoning for adultery, I'd consider moving there.

I'll take Cromwell

Have you ever watched the movie, "Cromwell", with Richard Harris as "Cromwell" and Alec Guinness as "King Charles I"? It is one of my favorite movies, even though Cromwell ends up by the end of the movie being like the king he rebelled against at the beginning of the movie.

I don't
No problem. I don't actually respect your point of view and don't find it interesting. Bye
I don't care what people in the internet think about politics in general. You have zero political power. I'm not interested in convincing you of anything, that would be a waste of time.

I honestly don't really watch movies. I am sure some of them are good, I'm not trying to be an Evangelical Puritan about films, but I grew up without a television or movies and can't really enjoy passive entertainment. I just get up and walk away after ten minutes trying to watch something.

I hear ya and don’t think you are going to retire from the world my brother . Rather use that world of experience in other ways. I’m probably close in age to you and I’m taking time to relax from many things I used to do however I’m active in my township council meetings, I’m active in scouting out churches for the PB’s, And I accompany my wife to her doctors appointments, treatments etc.
