PS I was really surprised that so many of the 'issues' we argue upon are not issues that I would expect to be disagreed by Baptists.

Issues where I anticipated a majority agreement: Inerrancy (Or one's view of) scripture; Creation; Baptistic theology; fundamentalism; divorce & remarriage; women preaching

I expected arguments about John Calvin, superiority of one's group of Baptists, One's preferred translation, ordination of divorced men; correct view of women & submission ... etc

El-G - I've been around since day one and agree that there is more "diversity" among the birds in the Baptist tree than I ever thought.

Not only from the very liberal (they cal themselves moderate) end of the Baptist spectrum, but from the very conservative end, too.

Adding to the Word man-made rules and traditions on that extremee is just as bad as subtracting from the Word on the other end.

Yes it is! And I have found that those two sides of the coin make up most of what is sin ... Either I am sinfully adding to God's Word, or I am taking away from it (sinfully) ...

According to dictionary.com

boom·er n.

1. Informal. A nuclear submarine armed with ballistic missiles.
2. Informal. A baby boomer.
3. A transient worker, especially in bridge construction.
4. Australian. A large, fully grown male kangaroo.

Nobody really knows.
I understand "Boomer Sooner" the
fight song of OU cause a Sooner
is one who did the land run in Oklahoma
Territory of 1889 but
staked their claim way to early. I've been
an University of Oklahoma (OU)* fan for 48 years
and have NO IDEA what "boomer" means.

*I R also a alumni they're
thumbs.gif

However, as for 'Oklahoma' the song
i do understand the phrase
"When the wind comes sweeping down the PLANES"

The average windspeed in Chicago (the
Windy City) is 23MPH. The average windspeed
in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma is 25MPH.

We have so many people email us and ask “What is a Boomer?”. Here’s an explanation for those of you interested.

“BOOMER” – Numerous groups of “boomers” were promoted for the opening of “Oklahoma Territory” in the Land Run of 1889. These homeseekers gathered at the Kansas border and made repeated attempts to colonize a tract of land in the heart of the Indian Territory ceded by the Creeks and Seminole Indians. After government intervention and negotiations with the Creeks and Seminoles the tract was opened for settlement.

So, there you have it. Boomers were settlers and Sooners were basically cheaters!

IF you stay on that site, you can buy some neat Boomer/Sooner
goodies
