. . . we aren't talking about the godless left!! This is what conservative people do all the time. When questioned about Trump and poor judgment - they can't defend him, so they turn it all around to the "godless left".
I'll add that this is what the left does as well, and they have a lot to point at.
My concern, however, is that the GOP (and Trump) have become what the world sees when they look at the work and support of Christians.
When they see Trump using foul language, making crude comments, being abusive towards those he disagrees with, lying, . . . Well, they see "Christians" laughing at those crude jokes, accepting the obscene language, tolerating the abusive comments, accepting or remaining silent when he lies, etc. And the problem is much deeper than Trump. Trump did not come along and hijack the GOP.
Very slowly Christians have allowed the GOP destroy their witness. I understood that we cannot serve two masters as a concept, but over the past two decades I have come to understand it as a reality.
If you recall, Franklin Graham is very supportive of Trump (still attending Trump events, praying that God make Trump the next POTUS, and putting Trump forward as an example of our faith). And I like Franklin Graham (starting to change my mind, to be honest).
If I were not saved it would be impossible that I listen to the witness of a Christian that I knew was a Republican (or a Democrat). Unfortunately when many think "Christian" they think "GOP".
We have to stop supporting godless things, but I fear it is too late for American Christianity as a whole. I really don't see a recovery of our "first love" in American churches. I believe that time has passed and it will fall on a reminent to strengthen the things that remain.
Maybe I'm just too pessimistic. I hope that is the case.
