    Joshua, it is called "The Subtle Power of Spiritual Abuse" by David Johnson & Jeff VanVonderen. You can get it on amazon.com. Or you might try a christian book store in your area. We are starting the discussion on Monday so you would need to get one asp. Joseph Botwinick is going to set up the format.

    Would love to have you. I think it is going to be a very thought provoking discussion now that I have started the book.

    You should still try to pick it up [IMG] . I know I'm looking forward to sharing and learning. I'm the youngest of the bunch, so I'm looking forward to being the student and learning a great deal. God bless and thanks again Brother Tim.

    Just an update:

    I have yet to hear back from Andrew about setting up the forum. If I don't hear back by tommorow, I figure we have two options:

    1. We could wait another week (I am quite sure Andrew is fairly busy and this would also accomodate those who will not be around next week).

    OR

    2. We could set this discussion up on my blog and I could just e-mail everyone a link to it.

    I am fine with either decision. Please post your thoughts here and let me know what you would like to do.

    Thanks,

    Joseph Botwinick

    hm, either of those would be fine with me, or we could just start a thread and ask others not to participate like was done a couple weeks ago.

    Hey guys,

    What are you reading, sharing, and commenting about? Could a late timer get in on the acton as it were?

    Let me know. One of you might send me a PM or email to let me know what when and the like; that is if I can get in on it?

    By the by:

    I am reading for research, teaching, and writing assignments:

    1. "Theology of the Reformers" by Timothy George;

    2. "Calvin's Institutes" selected portions;

    3. "Life and Letters of John A. Broadus" by his son-in-law AT Roberston;

    4. "Five Minute Church Historian" by Rick Cornish;

    5. "Christian History Made Easy" by Timothy Paul Jones.

    6. "A Treatise on the Preparation and Delivery of Sermons" by John A. Broadus in three of its revisions and historical iterations.

    7. I also have a book on "Luther's Rhetoric" I am reading to do an academic & critical book review for the ETS Journal.

    Whew! listing all of that made me tired. I had better go to work.

    sdg!

    After a bit of research, I have indeed learned that Andrew is extremely busy and more than likely extremely worn out right now, since his wife was scheduled for a C-Section two days ago (Congratulations Andrew. Please post pictures of the newborn when you can).

    Andrew's announcement

    In light of this news, I suggest that we just set it up as a discussion on my blog. I will set it up tonight and e-mail everyone the link. When Andrew gets settled with the new baby, we might consider moving the discussion back here to a temporary forum if that is agreeable with him.

    Hi there.

    We are reading a book called The Subtle Power of Spiritual Abuse by David Johnson and Jeff VanVonderen. Perhaps, you might be able to find it on Amazon.com and join the discussion. Even if you can't get it before the discussion begins, perhaps you could catch up. Let me know what you think.

    Sorry guys and gals;

    I am also reading "Ready for Reformation" by Tom Nettles just for fun! He is one of my mentors w/whom I studied Church History. I want to keep up so I can keep the SBC Reformation dialogue going and open.

    Oh, by the way, don't let the above reading list fool anyone of you. I am a slow reader and keep many volumes going at the same time. I just keep plodding along like and old plow mule one row at a time.

    One problem I have is an internal guilt that I am never doing enough. That must be the old IFB influence in my life! HA! just a joke and no offense intended to anyone on any level!!!

    sdg!

    No problem.

    I think this should be rather enjoyable. The discussion is set up and I have e-mailed the address to Tater. I look forward to the discussion.

    So can someone who's not reading the book with you guys "watch" the discussion?

    Actually, why are you moving the discussion to another site? Why don't you just start a discussion thread in THIS forum? (I think Tater suggested that a couples of pages ago?)

    I love book discussions, and I think it would be neat to watch you guys discuss it as you read it.

    Absolutely you may watch the discussion. I am not publishing the website here on the Baptist Board so that I don't break the rules of the board against soliciting websites and spam. If you would like to see the discussion, please e-mail me and I will be happy to e-mail you the link.

    Tater emailed me your blog, Thanks for setting it up.. like Tatertot said, I may not be able to participat much over the next few weeks,, then again I might..

    I'll be moving to the area where I start a new pastorate April 1st. So I will be gone Monday, and Tuesday, but should be back WEd. After that it will be spotty until I get settled in at the new parsonage.

    I like the idea of having it off of BB, because even though you ask people to not respond unless they are reading the book, there are some that just can't resist the temptation to do it anyway.
    We would be so aggravated at trying to maintain proper discussion, we would not be able to discuss the actual book.

    BTW, Joseph I like your Blog.
    I might have to get me one...

    Tim,

    Thanks for the kind words. I am happy to be able to provide an acceptable forum for discussion.
