what we need to determine is WHAT the Term/word meant at the time was written in the Bible, NOT what meanings might have become vested in the words later on!
Some words were replaced and others changed meanings just during the time the Bible was written.

The Holy Spirit inspired and used contemporary meanings to the terms, not what we see additional to it later on!
The job of the interpreter is to interpret in light of its historical and literary context and then arrive at a theology from the text that is applied to today.

I would have asked the specific reason why a woman did this, like was it a situation where no men were present or could physically do it?

I will take a spiritual woman anytime over a worldly man.

The gender or design of the human body has nothing to do with the way God gifts humans.

I know we disagree over this.. and YOU'll get out your rolling pin... but that's how I feel the Bible teaches..

Just because a human has the right body parts does not mean that person is more spiritural than another human...
It is about the heart, and if God calls a woman to serve, she had better serve. and yes, American Baptist churches (used to be Northern baptists) have had many, many women serve over the last 200 yrs.

that is why we MUST not try to readback into the Bible todaysculture and how we view things, but MUST get from the Bible what God meant, and apply that into our current culture, but when culture clashes/beliefs of today clash with the Bible...

CANNOT water down what God intended in order to make it more 'Agreeable!"

While we fret and worry about whether or not a woman can preach, about pastoral authority, and whatever else we fret and worry about we are not getting the job done.

Just this school year, I've watched this play out. Small child invites friend to spend Sundays with her so she can go to church. Other small childs accepts invitation and enjoys church.

The little girls are from two different churches. The parents of both are tied up in knots about conflicting doctrines, practices, ordinances, etc.

But quietly and gently, the girls start talking about what they learn in SS. And the little girl that first invited the second one gently leads her friend to faith in Christ.

Now we have the fun of watching that little one just blossom--it is very clear she "got it."

Has the parents, the preachers, the SS teachers, and the churches tied in knots and having fits.

See, she was led to Christ by another female who preached the gospel to her. That little evangelist was not ordained or authorized or whatever.

Or was she? Maybe she holds "ordination" from Someone with a whole lot more authority than any church body.

I didn't realize that little girl was a pastor..... I'd question a church that had a little girl as their pastor because the Bible speaks of not having a youngster in that role .....

Capitol Hill Baptist Church (SBC Mark Dever) which portrays itself on its website as having been "always doctrinally conservative," often opened its pulpit to girl evangelists.

"Child, 10 Preaches First Sermon Here" (Washington Post, July 9, 1926, p. 10):

"In a short, spirited sermon, in which she denounced the devil as "a liar and the father of lies," 10-year-old Betty Weakland, of Los Angeles, Calif., said to be the youngest preacher in the world, conducted her first services in Washington last night"

"[She] urged her hearers to "come to Jesus." She shouted her sermon in a loud voice, which could be plainly heard in all portions of the well-filled church."

Really? That obtuse? My writing or your reading?

Of course the little girl I mentioned is not preaching in a church, not ordained by one.

And that is the rub. There are actually adults running around assuming the second little girl cannot really be saved, really be bound for heaven, because the person that led her to Jesus is NOT an adult, NOT male, and NOT ordained to the gospel ministry.

Worse yet, she cannot be baptized without their authority, take the Lord's supper unless they decide her salvation is real, or be considered for church membership until one of those "annointed ones" tells her parents she can do so.

While we run around protecting the sanctity of man made institutions, God is busy getting His work done by the REAL church.....composed of all the saved, all of whom are commissioned to gospel ministry.

Yet we are speaking of the role of pastor and whether or not it is a position Biblically opened to women.

Corrected version:

That is why we MUST not interpret the Bible in light of culture, but we must get from the Bible what God meant, and apply that into our current culture.

We should not water down what God intended in order to make it more 'Agreeable!"

This is quite possibly one of the most ignorant posts in history. You're not interpreting anything. All you're doing is parroting what you've always been taught. Get out there and read real scholars. Interpret the Bible in light of its historical context. That's the only way we can determine what it is saying to us today.

How you ..."feel" is not the issue. What the bible ..."declares" is the issue.

What anyone feels is not important in the long run

The Bible is very clear about the issue: a woman can not lead the service. The Bible does not move with the times, the Bible does not change over time.
I would leave, too, if my church would encourage a woman (or a man, or anybody) to do something so obviously against the Bible.
It does not mean that we the ladies can not share the Word, or evangelize our male family members, friends or acquaintance. It does not mean that a man is always right and a woman is always wrong. Neither it means that a woman can not have an authority over a man (remember Deborah?). But it means that in the church, men should be pastors and deacons. This is how it do other vital things.

What a great example of superimposing the biblical text on a culture without ever interpreting it. Unfortunately, this viewpoint is damaging to women and men. It's not obvious. It flies in the face of the best evangelical scholarship.
