Ah yes... so you did.
So no instruments at all? Ever? Seriously or joking?
Preference or you think that should be normative?

It's about praising the Lord with your life. We're literally made to worship God and commune with him on a constant, daily basis.
Only God and myself can determine whether I do this. Yes, I fail God on a daily basis even on my best days. I'm human. I falter, I fall. I make mistakes.
Please Jordan, you seem to be a reasonable and logical young man. I legitimately expected better from you than to go throwing this brand of accusations at others. I'm not living in sin, nothing that the Bible clearly and demonstrably labels as sin. If I were fornicating or committing some other serious sin, you would be in the right to approach me. But that's not the case here.
I'm literally shaking right now. Rarely, very rarely, does anything said to me on the internet evoke such a response. I'm normally very much in control of my emotions and can take most things like water off a duck's back. I'm honestly hurt. You're treating me the way my family treated me for a time.
Romans 14:
"4 Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand."
I still don't get what is so shocking. I've been arguing all along that the lyrics are what matter rather than the music. There are things I listen to that you obviously don't agree with. There are things I watch that I doubt you would approve of. I could link to you what I treat as my personal homepage on an art website. I'm sure you would find a number of things you disagree with.
And that's fine that you don't agree, but please don't assume that just because I allow myself more liberty in some areas makes me a blackslider. You don't know enough about me or my life or my walk with God to determine this.
Who cares what we listen to....bunch of legalists. Oh BTW, I had a beer with my steak yesterday......deal with it!:tongue3:
I had another one when my steak was gone, while listening to Eric Clapton, and watching the Kings game. Life is good.
Ah yes... so you did.

I meant @ service......my tastes in music are extremely broad....Classical to Rap.
That was awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:love2:

Any that is compatible with the prescribed character of Christian interaction.
I've calmed down since last night. I'm sorry I snapped.
I thought I had made it clear in previous threads that I listen to some secular music, and seeing as I made my music tastes clear...well.
Part of what angered me, Jordan, was that you were accusing others--my brothers and sisters in Christ. That's just not okay in my book, and that was what drew out my initial ire. Normally people can say whatever they want about me and I don't care, but in this case you caught me off guard and you hit a sore spot.
My dad was one of the most spiritual people I knew. He had a lot of Bible knowledge and wisdom, and I admired that. He endured to the end, despite a fiery trial of living his last decade bedridden--those years were turbulent, and I think he suffered from depression a lot.
Despite his staunch stand against Christian rock, I caught him listening to the Beatles. He had a YouTube playlist dedicated to them. He watched TV programs my mom clicked her tongue at, and I often watched them with him. He enjoyed crime shows, including Law and Order, NCIS , and Monk.
His views on music or anything else never seemed to change, but he did get less strict and judge mental (the word he himself used) as he got older.
Does the fact that he listened to and enjoyed the Beatles or watched things others maybe wouldn't have approved of make him any less of a Christ follower? He produced fruit; he was a witness where ever he went, and people told us after he died that his life inspired them.
IF you want to argue for CCM, or other Christian genres, than I'm willing to accept that.
But when you blatantly say you listen to the worlds music (80s Alternative), what do you expect?
You're life is suppose to be pleasing the Lord, how does 80s alternative do this?
If Jesus walked in when you were playing 80s alternative are you honestly telling me that you would be comfortable?
I sincerely believe if you are doing this that it is hurting your relationship with the Lord whether you realize it (Or believe it) or not.
Listen, The Lord has called us to be Holy, and unspotted from the world.
James_1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
What kind of testimony would it be to lost people if you are listening to the same music as them? can you say with an honest heart that 80's alternative is unspotted from the world?
[snipped for brevity]
1. I am not talking about certain "Christian" music styles right now, I am talking abut secular music at this point. If you could give one piece of Biblical evidence that God does not approve of the music style you (and I) don't like you might have a point. But you can't produce any Bible evidence that rhythm, syncopation, or anticipated beat are sinful your arguments have merit you would have every right to question.
I rarely respond to personal attacks - but I am deeply offended as your brother in Christ that you say it is obvious that I think Christians can do whatever they want. You know nothing about my life or my walk with the Lord.
I'm sorry but to me, The world's music is wicked and sinful,
if you saw someone on here posting and saying they watch pornography when they get home to relax, would that not upset you and cause to you to want to rebuke?
I am sorry If I have offended people, but I am sick of this ideology in Christian circles that it's wrong to have standards and that it's somehow wrong to have a beliefs of black and white morality.
What kind of hypocrite would I be if I didn't hold to true to my beliefs?
Do you honestly expect me to be quiet about seeing others promote what I view as blatant sin?
I posted these verses once, and i am going to post them again.
Colossians 3:16-17 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
Eph 5:19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
Secular music is neither a pslam, hymn, or spiritual song and you know it.
And yes these verses are talking about music, You simply seemed to try and explain them away earlier.
You and everyone who honestly reads these verses knows that 80s Alternative does not conform to these verses.
You guys can come up with arguments all day, but secular music is not spiritual music....
Let's be honest with ourselves.
Does secular music pass the test of Eph 5:19 and Col 3:16?Pornography is clearly and demonstrably a sin and can be shown as such in scripture with little room for argument. Listening to music isn't, you won't find that anywhere in the Bible.
Jordan, the Bible speaks of liberty. Romans 14 is one of the best known passages about this.
Scripture instructs the brother allowing himself more freedom to be careful not to offend another brother or allow himself to be a stumbling block--but it also says that no one is to judge the brother's liberty. There are inevitably areas which Christians will disagree with each other on--scripture calls for respect on both sides.
I'm sorry but to me, The world's music is wicked and sinful,
Let's be honest with ourselves.
1John_2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
Romans_12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
James 4:4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
Does secular music pass the test of Eph 5:19 and Col 3:16?
