A close relative of mine would go to Christian refugee in Europe every year for two weeks over a period of nine years. He told me about a time when he thought a man spoke English and so he spoke to the man in English, but the man did not speak English. They understood each other well and each spoke in their own language. After an hour he realized the man did not speak English and was a Kurd who left his homeland. Another man who was there had a similar with a man who only spoke Swahili. Each man spoke in their own language and understood what the other was saying. The African man did not speak English and the other man did not speak Swahili. They spoke for two hours.

I’ve heard these types of stories before. It appears to be supernatural events enabled by Holy Spirit to spread the gospel.

I’ll add it is the biblical use of “tongues” mentioned in Acts and 1 Cor.

peace to you

Likewise, I've heard of similar stories of people communicating to each other in languages which they did not know. It certainly fits the description of Acts 2:5-12. As a disclaimer, I also believe in the present day use of the Gifts of the Spirit from 1 Corinthians 12-14. That is, the gifts of supernatural words of wisdom, words of faith, prophecy, tongues, etc. did not cease when the last of the Apostles died. However, there are a lot of false manifestations of those gifts. Getting back to the guy who had conversations with the Kurd, I believe this was for God's glory, and for the edification of both men. I don't see how Satan could have used such an event to deceive these Brothers in Christ. This goes along with Paul's admonition "concerning spiritual gifts, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be unaware" (1 Cor 12:1).

the God of the Bible IS VERY ABLE, and I know of this from a close friend. Though some doubt...

I have a friend who did some missionary work in the middle east some years ago. He was asked to speak on radio of his faith in Jesus. His interview was in Arabic, which he did not understand. However, he began to understand what was being said, and when he responded the words came out as Arabic! I have no doubt that this was supernatural and made possible by the Lord!

How come it is always "I knew someone"
you mean with all the members of Baptist Board -
We do not have even one member who has talked in "Biblical" tongues.?

You are guessing, again.

You do not know.

You know you are guessing and that has to be a disappointment, to you.

It's called, the flesh and the sin of presumption.

are you saying that the God of the Bible is limited in any way? Is He not able to allow the simple thing, as allow somone to understand and speak a language that they normally do? If this is for the Gospel and His Glory? Did God not do this on the Day of Pentecost?

I heard of a guy who closed his Bible and went out into the woods and the angel Monroni appeared unto him and directed him to the Golden Plates that he was able to read.

No so, Brother. I have personally witnessed manifestations of tongues, interpretations of tongues, and prophecies. Members of my immediate family have spoken in unknown tongues. The experience that @gb9343 described fits right in with Acts 2.

The thread asks the question - Where does this fit in your theology? My answer - it fits in quite Biblically.

New King James Version 1 Corinthians 14:39 Therefore, brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak with tongues.
