I don't understand. It was run by Franciscan brothers and the sisters that I mentioned. How does that not qualify for your consideration as being what they were?
Still were/are Roman Catholic in doctrines, correct?

There are Protestant nuns and brothers too!

Bro. Roger studied St Francis, and life at Taizé was modeled on the Franciscan Rule

Here are some (Calvinists and Lutherans) at a French Protestant meeting in 2013:

So they would deny the Catholic salvation by both grace and good works?

There are shuttle differences that are not biblically discussed...we Primitive Baptists for example
won't bring up and highlight our own beliefs/ different views unless sincerely asked or used as a weapon to attack our understanding.

STILL, Franciscans are part of the Roman Catholic Church just as PBs are Baptists (if they were forced to answer). Still that does not diminish their uniqueness and commitment to Christ as Lord and savior. In short, you would have to get very close to them, interact with them to get a clue to what I'm probably doing a bad job of explaining .

They still hold to the doctrine of Rom regardingthe Gospel, its just te do a much better job doing the social Gospel...
They cannot have the real Gospel ad still be aprt of Rome...

Again you are not getting it. LISTEN & learn friend. Most of "The Real" Franciscans (not necessarily Priests or Nuns) but rather the laity, have long since forgotten about any false doctrines that the RCC teaches .....they have moved on from it. Instead they seek to emulate Jesus the Christ thus making them real Christians not those who use church like some social club. I would tell you that the people I work with have a higher understanding of Real Gospel and they have a higher Christian World View than most ......AND THEY LIVE IT OUT (at great sacrifice).

I do not criticize them at all......they are doing wonderful things for Gods Kingdom. Now I will tell you that I have disagreements with them on DOG. They feel that the fall did not render Man as Totally unable to save themselves....similar to some Free Willers. But that is not a game changer for me. I can still have unity with these people, something I could not do if I were a Landmark' er. There is no moral or theological resentments among them.

You might even find a much greater spiritual center among them providing you are prepared to really follow The Sermon on the Mount. The Bible lies not just in its text but in the living Christ of history, Church , community and your own experience confirming its Truth. The context is best expressed in Colossians 1:27 "Christ among you, your hope of glory."

How would they define what it means to be Christian, and how to become one?

Basic paradigm regarding good works: They are all filthy rags without the imputed righteousness of Jesus, The Christ, The Son of the Living God. When God does not get the glory all is vanity.

Jesus said preach the gospel to every creature; not build monastaries and convents. Read what Mother Theresa had to say toward the end of her life. She has been beatified. This is the basic problem: man likes to give glory to others in an effort to get closer to God through the prayers of the saints.

Real salvation is still by Grace through Faith...see Ephesians 2:8-10.

Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

Well then have you considered Jansenism?

Jansenism
We are a Reformed Catholic church.
We hold to the Five points of Calvinism but we also hold to seven sacraments and have Mass every Sunday morning.
Post-Reformation and Contemporary Developments in Roman Catholic Theology
Jansenism – The movement was named after Cornelius Jansen (d. 1638), bishop of Ypres, Holland, and professor at Louvain University. Jansen was a thoroughgoing Augustinian/Calvinist whose theology was incompatible with the semi-Pelagianism of the RCC (and especially the Jesuits).
