When you look at the prophetic language in Revelation, it may be helpful to compare it to the prophetic language in the OT. Mary was prophesied as being clothed with the sun and having the moon under her feet, with a crown of twelve stars on her head. Clearly the prophetic language about Mary was not literal there.

It might also be useful to point out that it isn’t really charity when it is somebody else’s money.

Close to where I live, in Anchorage, homeless veterans are all over. Local people probably give more to veterans' charities than to any other charity. But it's still not enough. When charity isn't enough, there should be a social safety net. We don't need to go crazy like in the Scandinavian countries, though.

The Lord isn't talking about a "social gospel" here. He's judging all mankind based on this criterion: You must accept me as your Lord as well as your Savior. I commanded you to show love towards your neighbor. This is a direct result of a valid born-again conversion experience.

Thanks, interesting. If you use Matthew 24 as an outline for world history written in advance, you can fit portions of Revelation into it. Most of Revelation is symbolic and Matthew can appear that way too in some passages. But I think China where the sun is dark and moon doesn't give its light because of pollution could pass for a literal fulfillment.

Please don't speak for me. I don't agree with the words you're putting in my mouth.

Since the subject of this thread is the U.N. climate change agenda, it would have to go beyond social gospel anyway. It would have to be ecological gospel. As in "deep ecology". Meaning humans are not intrinsically worth more than any other form of life on Earth.

But even if we're restricting it to social gospel, we would be talking about Jesus wanting the U.N. to force us to redistribute our nations' wealth to other nations though a system of carbon credits and debits and exchanges.

It would be preposterous to attempt to scripture twist that way.

Since it can't be done, apparently it can only be vaguely implied.

Unlike you, my faith is not dependent on politics. I think that's the greatest problem the church faces today, the combination of Republican politics and "Evangelical Christianity."

Only when it comes from the free will of the individual and therefore the individuals heart. The government taking my money through excessive taxes to fund these things in violation of the Federal compact is not charity and does the individual no good at all.

So what have you done to feed the great masses of the poor or provide them with medical care?

I give to several different charities regularly that specifically help the poorest among us.

My monies are used by these organizations to provide food, housing, and medical care and believe me they are using the cash I give them far more wisely than any government agency could.

Excellent but if you vote to take away government aid to the needy to give tax breaks to the rich and pour more money down the black hole of the Pentagon you hurt them a lot.

No. I believe in separation of church and state. It's just that almost everyone else here believes that only republicans can be Christians. That makes my posts stand out as a voice of reason.
