That's good because no one said scripture was greater than God.

That is not the position of the original post. The question is what is the greatest gift?

You listed Jesus as a choice. You are arguing against those of us who chose Jesus. Greatest gift would mean all other gifts are inferior. You have been arguing The Bible is the greatest gift. Since you included Jesus and Holy Spirit as choices, you are arguing The Bible is greater than both of them. Dont start trying to move the goal posts.

Icon you made a clear declaration and then have worked hard to defend it. The title of the op is a partial declaration but not a question. The poll you added is the only thing that gives room for options but even that is in direct opposition to your title and your op. If you intended it to be a question that is not clear from your title nor your op.

God giving of Himself in the person of His Son is greater than Scripture which is but a testimony of this gift.

I am glad we can agree that Scripture is not the greatest gift as I was starting to worry just a little.

    Did you believe her?

How did Scripture compare to the Vedas?

Do you believe that handing her a Bible would have saved her?

Do you believe that her reading of Scripture would have saved her?

Or, is the difference between those who are saved and those who are not a difference greater than a Bible? Perhaps something or Someone like.... Oh... I don't know.... God?

However, it sounds very much like you are arguing without basis that the Bible is greater than God’s gift of his Son.
Consider the following contrast Jesus made in John 5:39-40:

"You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse to come to me to have life."

    Yes..
Originally I posted it as a statement,
Salty thought it would be helpful as a poll question, and I thought it was a good idea.

I myself violently protested this idea when it was first proposed to me over 35 years ago.
I argued that Jesus, the cross, the shed blood were superior.
As he engaged me head on, I had to adjust my thoughts to the scriptural revelation.
As the scriptural arguments progressed it came
down to what has God given us as a more sure word of prophecy.
Has he left us with hearsay, gossip, fables, not what he could have done, but what indeed has God done.
When we speak with a Roman' Catholic and they offer traditions, what do we tell them?
    We say scripture says....
We do not say...someone told me!

I wonder, Scripture as a whole or the simple Gospel of Christ?

Which do you believe greater, a basic gospel or biblical knowledge as a whole?

I was thankful to have the time to present the biblical gospel aftering hearing some of her ideas.
I raised some questions, tried to remove some obstacles, then spoke of the one High Priest, the one acceptable mediator, and the only covering for sins, her sins, each and every one.
    The results belong to God

If scripture as a whole is not established as the word of God and what it reveals, concerning man's condition and the judgment to come, you have no gospel.

It might sound that way at first as it did to me.
Take a moment and list the questions I have asked Y1, which he did not answer, and now several others.notice the answer for certain is only known by special revelation.
This can be explored at length.

    She probably felt the same.

She also has sacred scriptures she believes given supernaturally and not of man.

The difference is not the text but the Arthur of our faith Himself.

Then I believe even more strongly you are wrong.

The reason, of course, is I believe the greatest gift is Christ. All of Scripture points to Christ, but insofar as humanity goes the gospel ("Christ crucified" ) is the power of God to salvation to those who believe.

The "whole of Scripture" speaks of Christ, but it is not the gospel itself.

    We simply disagree.

Everything appeals to scripture so far.
The question remains what true knowledge can be had without the full God given authority of scripture..
This is easily proven in several ways to be without question.
We are not speaking of what could have happened, but what has God actually put in place.

No one is doubting that Scripture is our authority for doctrine.

The Gospel that Christ preached is the Kingdom come. God's Kingdom is in place. God put it in place.

The sign is never greater than the destination to which it points.

    I voted Bible, however

I would have used, the word of God, rather than the bible.

Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.
