    They Ask So Little

Not sure this is needed in the DEBATE forum (don't think anyone will debate this :) ) but a change of pace from the usual.

Some Comparisons of our English Translations.

I am still waiting for "source" material as well. This is not a "minor" matter in many questions on (no implication of impropriety, but served too long as a college/grad school prof refereeing debates) our translation/vocab choices and what "weight" scholarship gives.

    Shallow preachers....

Common error in speaking (we all do that - shortcuts in the way we express biblical truth) that the Lord will return by "our efforts" of evangelism. Think about what that means if true: WE are in charge of the second coming of Christ! No one actually believes that. BTW, when will Christ return...

    Shallow preachers....

Bwaa-haha. That is funny (and of course, an attack on my God, so not appreciated - but I take it as a lame attempt at humor so won't ban you immediately :) . That God chose to show UNMERITED GRACE to any of the people on earth is an unfathomable miracle. Every person is His enemy, hating...

    Black GI's denied VA benefits???

Ethnic undertones are not appreciated. Let's be careful to deal with fact and not so-called stereotypes

    Shallow preachers....

That's why I included to two main errors of IFB'dumb. The false arminian/works teaching to keep your salvation, and the false "managawd is always to be obeyed"

    Shallow preachers....

Others have been taught various man-made tenets and act in accordance with them, not the Word. The listeners feel "comfortable" with preaching in line with those teachings. For example, if you BELIEVE these tenets, you will flock to hear: God wants you healthy and wealthy - they will hoot and...

    Shallow preachers....

"having itching ears" - that sort of preaching doesn't convict but does entertain a base craving within some, to be flattered, to be included, to laugh and feel good and not be convicted of sin, righteousness and judgment to come. Spurgeon: "A time will come when instead of shepherds feeding...

    Being Ignorant of God's Righteousness

Hebrews 11 - "By faith Abel offered to God a sacrifice exceeding that of Cain, by which he demonstrated his righteousness". He was declared/made righteous first by grace alone, and then his righteous sacrifice showed it. He didn't become righteous by his sacrifice, but the opposite. Many get...

    Midrash

I have never run into that situation, brother. Most who want some "support" for odd interpretations or fodder to discard texts go to "big name" preachers and not Jewish commentaries. Personally, I appreciate anyone who even understands the basic differences of the midrash, Talmud, and Torah. :)

    Christian Youtube Channels Recommendations

Thanks, bro. Looking forward to other options. Of course, to some people "Christian" takes on a different meaning, so there will be possibility of disagreement

    Goverment of a Baptist church

In the NT example, we see the "first generation" problem - new church with no elders and what do you do? Paul wrote Timothy and Titus and explained it was their mission to train up these new Jewish or pagan men to be the leaders and then, when trained and qualified (good report from community...

    Length of a Pastorate

Since Pastoral forum gets very little traffic and this is for ALL church members, I'm initially asking about length of pastorates. Surely will raise other spin-off questions down the road. 1) How long has the pastor served in the church you attend? (If any Pastor wants to share personal story...

    Unqualified???

That is true but NOT one of the three questions this thread asked. Think Salty wants answers to HIS questions, not your hobby horse answers. 1. Would you put in unqualified men in office 2. What if elder is not fulfilling his ministry 3. What would you do to insist on change Growth is NOT...

A Biblical Description of the Extent of Sin

Guess I'm missing your point. He says eternal hell is not designed to "take away" stain of sin. Suffering in hell is forever. I agree with eternal heaven and eternal hell. Where is the problem?

A Biblical Description of the Extent of Sin

During man's lifetime, God may choose any way He desires for the one never saved. The rain falls on the just and unjust alike. Futile? No. God's plan can involve good/evil for anyone for His good pleasure. After death, God deals with sinful man who is not saved with 100% punishment/justice for...

    And your preaching style?

Enjoyed reading. I taught homiletics for 4 years at Pillsbury Baptist College and I would have every young man read that one. The different styles is very informative and lots of material for novice preachers to consider. (y) (y)
