Yes, I knew that. Are you familiar with his writings?

    SDA: Cult of Fear-Mongers

I see the words "cult" and "heresy" flung around a lot on this forum. Is that a characteristic of conservative Baptists on here? If so, it doesn't seem to fit with Baptist principles.

    Rene Girard

Is anyone familiar with the writings of this atheist-turned-Roman Catholic philosopher and theologian? Recently I discovered him, and this has been life-changing for me. Along with Eastern Orthodox soteriology, Girard's writings have made it possible for me to remain a Christian. Girard sees...

    Any Non-Baptist Christians here?

Look, I was Orthodox for many years. I am not wrong. The EOC does not hold to transubstantiation. They do not define the Eucharist with a specific definition like the RCC and many Protestants do, preferring instead to speak of it as a "Mystery". I never said the EOC held to the Lutheran view...

    Any Non-Baptist Christians here?

Yes, and that's why they immerse infants!

    Any Non-Baptist Christians here?

Yes, but it does not define the Eucharist in the same way -- that is, transubstantiation.

    Any Non-Baptist Christians here?

Not officially a Baptist yet, as I have not joined a local church yet, but I have been attending one.

    Any Non-Baptist Christians here?

I used to be Eastern Orthodox. Now I consider myself just a follower of Jesus, a New Testament Christian looking for a New Testament church. My soteriology is still EOC, as that is NT Christianity, but I have abandoned EOC ecclesiology, infant baptism/sacraments, as these are definitely not NT.

    For my sister

I request prayers for my sister, Carol. She is in ICU with double pneumonia, sepsis, and it has affected her kidneys. She is on a ventilator. Doctors say she could go either way. Please pray for her healing. Both my parents have died. I am not ready for my sister to go yet.

Will the Jews build a Third Temple?

No. But let me add that while I remain open to being convinced on some eschatological issues, I am decidedly not a dispensationalist or Christian Zionist.

Will the Jews build a Third Temple?

No. Not sure I get your point.

Will the Jews build a Third Temple?

No. Not sure what to label it, though.

Will the Jews build a Third Temple?

I'm not sure where I stand with regard to eschatology, except for this: I don't believe the church is just a parenthesis, until it is taken out of here so God can then deal with His true center of history, Israel. No, I believe the church is the true center of history, the redeemed from all...

    Tithing

Do you believe tithing is required of New Covenant believers? I'll give my opinion after others respond.

Will the Jews build a Third Temple?

And another thing that is false is that the Old Covenant remains in effect. Or do you believe that there are two ways to be saved, one way for Jews and another for non-Jews? To me, that would be negating the death and resurrection of Jesus.

A New Testament Christian's Crisis of Faith

I can certainly agree with that!

A New Testament Christian's Crisis of Faith

Sorry to just be getting back to this thread. My atonement views are basically those held by the Eastern Orthodox Church. That is, the Ransom view, which would encompass what is called the Classic view, or Christus Victor. Also, Recapitulation was held in the early church, and I find that...

Is the doctrine of Eternal Conscious Torment, biblical or not?

Just read through this thread. Very interesting. I have studied this subject for a long time. There are a few here who have apparently read church history. Annihilation, eternal hell, and universalism have all been held throughout church history. That being the case, charging someone with being...

    Western vs. Eastern Soteriology

Just as He said this is my body and this is my blood, He also said I am the door and I am the vine. Why do you interpret one as literal and the other metaphorically? Because your hierarchy tells you to?

    Western vs. Eastern Soteriology

So, you would also have to believe that Jesus was a literal door and a literal vine, right? Or else you do like everyone else, interpret literally when its fits your presuppositions and figuratively when it does likewise. That's not an attack because everybody does this.
