    Southern Baptist Convention

Wow, this is fascinating to me. So, let me ask this about corporate autonomy and individual autonomy: Suppose a member of a church wanted to give to that church but not to the convention. Could that person remain a member of the church? I am becoming strongly attached to the Baptist principle...

What about books such as the Shepherd of Hermas? It was widely read in the early church and almost considered scripture, but ultimately not included. How much did the Reformation reform?

All of scripture should and will be my guide. Still, in this case I find the statement of James clear and straightforward. I'll think more and study more on it, though.

    Bible, sole authority?

I am going to take a mediating position on this subject of baptism and faith. First, and I'll repeat, I tend toward taking what the scriptures say at face value, interpreting them literally unless there is some good reason to do otherwise. Let me state upfront that since my days in Orthodoxy I...

    Bible, sole authority?

I agree with you. But what about when there is disagreement on the meaning of particular scriptures? For a person searching for truth, how do they know which interpretation is the right one?

How much did the Reformation reform?

To clarify: I am not taking sides in this, as I am not completely sure about what I believe yet regarding it. But I will interpret James literally as I believe it is meant literally, and I do know that there is disagreement in the Bible, which does not worry me.
