Should pastors be required to know original Biblical languages?

That's what I don't get... Skoal tasted like tobacco. I liked that it tasted like that. I never could get into "wintergreens" or cherry or anything like that. Copenhagen users (where I'm from) always used the pure fine cut stuff which I couldn't distinguish between dip and fish-bait...the dirt...

Should pastors be required to know original Biblical languages?

Maybe...depends on how it's used. But take, for instance, how some Theologians take the particular grammatical construction of a word and then try to then retranslate your Bible for you. That's what torques me....I don't want to know the Original languages in order to retranslate my beloved KJV...

Should pastors be required to know original Biblical languages?

blech..... Skoal is the way to go for dip... Copenhagen is like chewing dirt....and it has no flavor. This is a matter worth splitting a church over.

Should pastors be required to know original Biblical languages?

LOL.... An amazingly honest statement.. Of course, I love the American Rural church.... Who doesn't. Cracker Barrel makes it's living selling the music of the American rural church, and I am not immune to spending my hard earned bucks on some classic Americana like steel guitar and banjo...

Should pastors be required to know original Biblical languages?

I certainly agree that pastors should do the work of an evangelist...Paul tells timothy that...exactly that....in those exact words (translated into English of course). And the word usually translated as "pastor" is literally the word "shepherd". So, obviously, they should shepherd the flock. I...

Should pastors be required to know original Biblical languages?

Did I suggest that pastors are not evangelists or shepherds of the flock? Please quote me on that or detract this slander. When did I suggest this?

Should pastors be required to know original Biblical languages?

*Sigh* You are over-thinking this: What was this statement of yours if not a "Stereo-type". "Rural churches are wonderful places filled with wonderful people". That, sir, is a "stereo-type", a generalization. There's truth to it.... I like said "rural churches" myself, there's a comfort to...

Should pastors be required to know original Biblical languages?

Yes, I do. I think that generalizations exist because they are generally true. I believe that because I am not stupid. You should get your money back because they were wrong. Stereotyping is nothing more than application of inductive logic.... Essentially, it takes a form like: Of 5,000,000...

You had me until you suggested "Red Man"....you may chew then...but you don't chew Red Man.

Should pastors be required to know original Biblical languages?

The same one they've heard for the last 50 years from the same text preached almost exactly the same way..... Just like the same hymns played and sung exactly the same way they've heard. Also, they like quotable quips like: "I don't care how much you know until I know how much you care". You...

Should pastors be required to know original Biblical languages?

Yes...sometimes they are also full of child-rapists. Didn't say that, and don't suggest it. Are you simply lying about what I said or are you illiterate?

Should pastors be required to know original Biblical languages?

I care nothing for what YOU think a "pastor's heart" is..... You don't even understand what a pastor's job is, let alone whether you should psycho-analyze his heart. A pastor's heart isn't one that makes people feel good. A pastor's heart is one that tortures himself in studying the text so that...

Should pastors be required to know original Biblical languages?

. Yes, I know.... I don't think pastors should "look at Greek nuance". So, who are you talking to? I have zero doubt you know nothing about Greek. You can't just intentionally "forget" a language if you know anything about it. How do you know???? You've already forgotten everything you claim...

Should pastors be required to know original Biblical languages?

If you are going to reduce my posts and insult my arguments to this simplistic and pathetic one-liner quip... You are either deceitful or profoundly ignorant of what I'm saying. Perhaps I do not express myself sufficiently. I have, to this point profoundly respected most of your posts on...

Should pastors be required to know original Biblical languages?

. I anticipated this objection and answered it before you asked it.... Every post I submitted already stated that it isn't about the formal letters behind the name, but the studied knowledge accrued. Anticipated and answered, I would refer you to the posts I have already submitted... I have...

Should pastors be required to know original Biblical languages?

More interestingly...…..(as far as word-count) Luke wrote more of the New Testament than Paul. Some of our brethren seem to think God was a moron to choose the equivalent of a P.H.D. Theologian and a Medical doctor to write the New testament.

Should pastors be required to know original Biblical languages?

Maybe.... But, the question is really about whether or not it is a valuable tool. Truth is, it's a valuable tool. One shouldn't judge the value of a pursuit by its abuse or misuse, but on the merits of the skillset itself. Knowing Greek or Hebrew is, on its face, a valuable skillset. That it...

Should pastors be required to know original Biblical languages?

Original language study is not about retranslating an English translation of the Bible. I affirm the value of studying them. What's wrong is the misuse of such knowledge. But that isn't exclusive to original languages either. All education can be abused. Also, this is not always about higher...

Should pastors be required to know original Biblical languages?

I think this is a good question and a great thread topic... Please, let's not let this devolve into a KJV/KJVO conversation. This is about pastors studying the Original languages.

Should pastors be required to know original Biblical languages?

A working familiarity with the Original Languages is a priceless tool to have in the box for pastors. One thing I believe the Church is lacking is a focus on pastors as iheologians. Pastors need to be educated. The local church is the pillar and ground of the truth, not a popular commentator...
