    Unacceptable behavior in church.

Oh my gosh TCassidy!! That is hysterical!! I do think that ushers can help in this situation. Latecomers can only enter the sanctuary at certain times. You want to go to the bathroom? You need to wait for the appropriate time to re-enter the sanctuary. I do think it is really rude to do...

    Struggling Wife...Struggling Mom

Wow. You have a lot going on in your post and i don't think that I can address all of it but let's take it one step at a time: #1 - You are married to this man for better or for worse. Yes, people will say to leave him - that is a common response from the world and even the church. There are...

    The Shack

The author has heretical views and they come out in this movie. He wrote a book called Lies We Believe About God and he clearly outlines his unorthodox views of his god and not the God of Scripture. You can read Tim Challies' review of it here. What Does The Shack Really Teach? “Lies We...

Good books on apologetics for a men's group

Evidence That Demands a Verdict was in our homeschool curriculum for 8th grade - I don't think it is too scholarly to use for grown adult men.

    Funeral Hymns

Generally the songs done at a funeral service at our church are done live. My husband has led them on piano and/or keyboard and we have had others lead on guitar/piano/keyboard as well. Sometimes we will have additional people to help lead the singing depending on who is requested and who is...

    Funeral Hymns

Martin - Before the Throne of God Above is definitely big around here too and I can't get through it without tears. What an amazing song!

    ESVs available from chaplain

Crossways is really great about having very inexpensive Bibles available for people so I'm not surprised that you're seeing them there. :) I love how they have the digital copies for free (obviously not the study Bible but the regular Bibles) and we get our "pew" Bibles for about $4 each.

Should Churches Restrict Mobile-Cell Phone Use During Services?

I agree. I think it is HIGHLY disrespectful of a student to be playing on their phone during classes unless the teacher allows it during certain times (like my daughter can hop on her phone and text me when she is finished with a test and she has to sit and wait for the end of the class).

    Funeral Hymns

We tend to get the standards: Blessed Assurance It is Well Amazing Grace Those are the three most used songs for funerals but then we will also have some worship songs too, depending on the person/family. Our last funeral the family wanted a song from Fast and Furious played but I told them...

Right or wrong: Church to shield illegals!

People came to this country breaking the law. The church is going to help them to continue to break the law. That is wrong. Should the church decide to employ a lawyer to assist illegal aliens in becoming legal and they decide to help financially as well - awesome. Go for it. Within the law.

For Mom's whose children are in heaven.

Yesterday on Mother's Day, there was an accident in a nearby town where a car jumped the curb towards a middle aged mom and her 16 year old daughter. The mom pushed the daughter out of the way of the car and was hit by the car, killing her. She gave her life for her daughter on Mother's Day...

    Willful Sin Kills You

But just because the law has been fulfilled doesn't mean Christians are teaching to disobey God. I've honestly never seen that. Of course we don't obey the 600+ laws because they were not all given to us.

Should Churches Restrict Mobile-Cell Phone Use During Services?

So don't do it on your phone either. Again - Use the sermon notes for the basis of your personal study on Monday or further into the week each week. Trust me - your pastor would love if you did that!

    Willful Sin Kills You

What support do you have for this statement? No Christian I know teaches against obedience.

Should Churches Restrict Mobile-Cell Phone Use During Services?

But that is not the time to go reading something else. You are there to listen to the Word of God read and preached by the pastor. A GREAT thing to do is to take your notes home with you and then at least on Monday, use those notes for your personal study time and THEN go to look at the...

Should Churches Restrict Mobile-Cell Phone Use During Services?

LOL We just use the metal building our sanctuary is housed in. NO cell service gets through there. :D

Should Churches Restrict Mobile-Cell Phone Use During Services?

It's easy to limit cell phone use - make the room such that cell signals don't reach in there and 2 minutes before the service starts shut off the wifi and turn it back on immediately after the service ends. :D I have used my phone at times for my Bible but I prefer a paper Bible because I am...

Wow, what an adventure! Or, why I've not been on the board for 3 weeks!

Wow! So glad that the doctors have you under good care. The PICC line is annoying but it is a great way to get the antibiotics in you cleanly. Please take care of yourself and get plenty of fluids and rest!

    Met an "effective" evangelist

Our church does and has removed staff and members alike when there is unrepentant sin and not even just sexual sin. I will disagree with this because I don't think we need to be in a constant state of suffering in order to think that we are following God. There are times that things are going...
