    Calvinism's View of Satan

That's right jw... webdog - please consider that Jesus told Nicodemus he couldn't even SEE the kingdom of heaven unless he was first born from above. And, that is not something he could do on his own. "For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s...

    Calvinism's View of Satan

webdog, "...choose life..." and "...choose you this day..." were imperatively given to God's chosen people. Joshua was taking over and rallying the people to make the right decision. They were already God's chosen (Deut. 7).

    Calvinism's View of Satan

I found some great articles on this from the Calvinist perspective: From Hodge: http://www.mbrem.com/apologetics/chodge-evil.htm http://www.monergism.com/thethreshold/articles/onsite/ProblemEvil.htm http://www.desiringgod.org/library/fresh_words/2001/091701.html...

    Calvinism's View of Satan

I think this is an excellent question. I have never read much on this from any Calvinist. However, I think the answer may be similar to this: God is in charge of all that happens, ever. He controls the heart of the kings; he accomplishes His purposes and decrees without fail. It seems...

Gee Terry, there's a telling statement. How embarrasing for you.

    Calvinist or Arminian

Someone once said: "God is not unfair if He graciously gives to some what He is not obligated to give at all."

    Prayer of Jabez

I think Wilkinson needs to get his theology corrected before he attempts any more mission work. I saw him on Larry King fumble on the simplest questions of Christianity. Plus, his "Jabez" book is just silly.

    confused about Calvin

"Then they said to him, “What must we do, to be doing the works of God?” Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.”" (John 6:28-29, ESV)

    Calvinism statistics

Also, here is a basic defnition from Nelson's New Christian Dictionary: Calvinism System of Protestant Christian doctrine expounded by Calvin in his commentaries on the Bible and in his Institutes. Calvin himself held that the term Calvinism was a misnomer because what he taught was entirely...

    Calvinism statistics

Hi Joman, I would like to recommend a couple of websites to help you place "Calvinism" in its proper perspective: http://www.apuritansmind.com/Reformation/ShortHistoryCalvinism.htm http://www.founders.org/FJ19/article5.html

    Non-Calvinist theologians?

Hi Scott, Thank you for reminding me of an error. I was confusing Arminias with Pelagius. I do think most evangelicals are Arminian in their basic views today... I think "semi-Pelagian" works.

    confused about Calvin

sigh... This conversation is getting so careless... watchman, it's amazing that Jesus said believing is the work of God and yet you summarily dismiss it. me4him, Check your Matthew reference because Jesus said He wanted to gather "your children" under His wing but the religious leaders...

    Non-Calvinist theologians?

Most people are NOT Arminian in evangelicalism today, in my humble opinion, so let's not assume labels. Can we please focus on the opening post? There are plenty of other forums to debate the issue.

    A defence of Calvinism

Brother James: Waitaminute!! That can't be! Spurgeon was a soul-winner and therefore couldn't be a Calvinist, could he?? Just having fun, thanks for posting that sermon; it is a real thorn in the side of the Dave Hunt's of the world.

    Non-Calvinist theologians?

Nate, Perhaps the "Calvinism" that we see debated on this website is often a caricature... Brian

    Non-Calvinist theologians?

Thank you for the replies so far... Helen, I am not interested in anyone's opinion on the validity of Calvinism, I only asked for non-Calvinistic theologians.

A Lutheran scholar who is anti-reformed? Now, that's interesting.

    Non-Calvinist theologians?

I'm hoping to learn much from this thread. I am a layman, like most of the folks who frequent here, and I have never been to seminary. I'm hoping some who are better educated can assist. When I think of biblical, solid theologians, I think of the Puritans (which includes Whitefield...
